Form an Organization for Promotion ofInterest or Lancaster and Gar rard County The fact that Lancaster line awak from her Rip nap was demonstrated Monday eve ning by the business men meeting and forming a Commercial Club the which is to hustle for everything which will promote the our town and county About twen tyfive or thirty of the leading busi ness men met in the city court room by the interest exhibited proved they meant business and proposed to off their coats and build up a town second to none in the state Capt Wm Herndon called the meeting to order After a short talk stating the object of the club he was unanimously elected president Mr John C Thompson was elected vice president and Mr John M Farra secretary On motion these were then made permanent ofti cers The Citizens National Bank was decided upon astreasurer It was decided to make the initation fee one dollar and the way the silver wheels were rattled over the table showed that those present did not propose to stand back on matters of that kind After some discussion it was conclu to allow the officers to select nine others who with themselves would constitute a board of directors It also decided to leave it to these directors as to the amount or annual dues to be charged There are several matters of vital importance to the welfare of Lancas and Garrard county which will to be looked after at once and forming this club the thing can be gone about in a businesslike way Several matters which we are not at liberty to speak of in print at present be pushed to success and when they are made public the people will readily see the importance of the clubOne thing is certain and that is the town will never make until united pull is made to get and bring money this way For several years a few men have man was here last week and induced several business men to buy a lot of engrav ed letter heads A fancy price was paid for the engraving The so called engraving is made in this way A background is purchased by a printer at a cost of about 150 The sheets are run through the press with this and printed with a slightly colored ink Then ordinary type is set and the wording printed over the The same background is used on every other though different type but when customer sees his nextdoor neighbor with the same cut or he begins to think over the uncertainties ofthe human race This office receives many circulars from type houses wanting to sell us but we do not intend to gull our patrons by any such claptrap The type never prints in the right place and an examination will show the cheap hash sticking out If business men want engraved sta tionary they should have a reputable firm in some city to make them a plate which is the only way it can be done orrectly f I applicants
