interest exhibited proved they meant business and proposed to off their coats and build up a town second to none in the state Capt Wm Herndon called the meeting to order After a short talk stating the object of the club he was unanimously elected president Mr John C Thompson was elected vice president and Mr John M Farra secretary On motion these were then made permanent ofti cers The Citizens National Bank was decided upon astreasurer It was decided to make the initation fee one dollar and the way the silver wheels were rattled over the table showed that those present did not propose to stand back on matters of that kind After some discussion it was conclu to allow the officers to select nine others who with themselves would constitute a board of directors It also decided to leave it Saufley ruling in sub stance that it was the duty of the city to keep up the roads in its limits The city carried the case to the Court of Appeals The county court in its brief to the Court of Appeals asked the higher court to also express an opinion as to whether or not the county had the power to acquire or purchase those portions of the turnpikes within the city of Danville and declined to set tie with the owners until this point had decided As this question was not before Judge fcaulley it was not expected that the Appeals would take notice of it and there was nothing in the daily papers
