held at New Providence Tues afternoon at three oclock burial in Bellevue cemetery The Democratic Convention A very large crowd attended the Democratic Convention Saturday It met at 3 oclock and county chairman George T Farris presided Nothing outside the usual convention routine was done until the instructions were reached It was the will of the convention to give the of Garrard to Mort Rothwell but the rub came when the question of a second choice was reached Mr Roth well wanted the delegation to go in structed for him with no second clause tacked on but some of the Me Creary men objected Tuesday to nominate a candidate for Congress Dr Ed Welch of Nicholasville was elected temporary chairman and Messrs Ed Booth of Anderson and Tax I Ilarailion of Lancaster secretaries Upon the recom mendation of the committee on organ ization those gentlemen were unani mously elected as permanent officers The various committees cOlsisted of out delegate to each committee from each county During the wait for the committees to report the convention was e trtained by speeches from lIon E F Pealce of Oldham Captain Thorn of Henry lion W 15 Smith of other gentlemen who have axes to grind The committee on resolutions was the first to report reaffirming to the Chicago platform c The committee on credentials then report all delegations the on organization suggested the permanency of the temporary organi zation and recommended that the Convention be governed by the laws of the last general assembly in so far as they are applicable They reserved their report as to the dropping of the hindmost man urtil such time as the Convention should demand it The secretary was then directed to call the roll of counties for candidates Jes samine was the first and Mr J Wil lard Mitchell offered the name of lion B A Crutcher Pat Sullivan of Mad ison offered the name of James T5 Mc Creary and lIon P Nat Hardin the name of Mr John B Thompson List came Slelby and Julge J C Beck ham of Spencer three more ballots without re sult The Convention then adjourned until eight a m Wednesday On Wednesday morning the ballot ing was renewed and all indications pointed to a deadlock Rockcastles vote returned to McCreary The vote stood then as on the first ballot and continued so until the 41st when a stir was noticeable among the Jessamine delegates This d legatoi had been voting solid for Crntcher The chair man arose and cast seven votes for McCreary 7 for Gilbert Mercer then cast her 17 Thompson voles for Gil Richmondand edseating m temporary allegiance committee majority bert These would have nominated Gilbert but Mr C C Fox of arose and changed the Boyle vote which had been G for Gilbert G for Thompson and cast it solid for Gil bert The vote then stood 84 for Gil bert and he
