Lancaster Mills are having a pipe laid from their engine room to the big spring on Battle Row oppo site the Old Ark They bought this spring a year or two ago but were compelled to haul the water In or der to get the pipe near a level it was necessary to go down into the ground a distance of ten to twelve feet in some places The water will be from the spring to the large pool at the mill and by constant pumping no water will be lost This enterprise will be a great ad vantage to the town as the electric light plant is run from the same engine and in dry weather a sc ircity of water has several times trouble The Musical The entertainment given by the mu sic class at the G ailed School Thurs day afternoon was greatly enjoyed by a largecrowd of patrons of the school and other friends The patrons of this department are greatly pleased with the success of their children Mrs Gowen is a teacher of rare abili ty and those who understand music say there was never a better teacher in the Tampa though they may ba landed in Cuba before this paper gets to its readers Eight additional regiments arc to be sent to the Phil ipines giving Maj Gen Merritt a force of 20000 men The Spaniards are doing their ut most to keep out of the way of the American ships Their Cape Verde fleet took refuge in the landlocked harbor at Santiago and it was imme diately bottled up by Schleys big fleetAdmiral Dewey still holds Manila by the throat and the Spaniards are una ble to escape from sure starvation or surrender from Port au Prince and Cape Hay tien say that the outer forti fications of Santiago special says efforts are still being made on the part of of the members of the Kentucky lelegation to secure a Brigadier Gen eralship or two for the State but there still seems to be little time a Kentuckian calls at the White House whether he ha a or Rcpultlican he is reminded of the appointments of Breckinridge and llacon From what can be learned the case of Adj Gen Dan Collier seems to be blocked owing to a trifling cause It is said that Senator Deboe has been urged by a strong class of Kentucky Republicans not to lose any sleep over the appointment of Collier for if the General were to be appointel the Ser ators friend Assistant Adj General Forrester might become Adj General This is thought to be a very potent gument with the Senator against the appointment of Collier and a Kentucky Republican said to night that it was the one thing in the way of Colliers Congressman Davison is still working hard for Collier and believes that he has a show but a poor one Tin mothers Hill Cemetery LonsviirK Ky May l The graves of the federal dead in Cave Hill cemetery were decorated Monday with appropriate ceremonies An address was delivered by Prof Reuben Pst Ilalleck of the male
