Tais was de stroyed by fire, excepting the large warehouse, in February 1S95. Previous to the fire, the Levy Brothers, of Cincinnati, purchased the plant Immediately after its destruction they began the erection of the present plant The ilistillery proper is built entirely of brick and is a model of convenience and perfection, only the latest improved machienry and fixtures being used. As a rule, a distillery is a very dirty place but here everything is as neat and clean as a new pin. The tubs, floors, and machinery are scour ed and rubbed daily and a stylishly dressed lady could go all over the premises without soiling a thread. The distiller, Mr. Calvin Nevieus, is said, by those who know, to be one of the best in the state, and judging from the excellent article produced, this reputation is well earned. The plant is now in operation and 103 bush- eles arc mashed per day, from which Mr. Nevieus produces from 'J to 9 barrels of whisky. The bottling department is a new feature with distillers, the government only recently granting them that privilege. This department at the Pilgrimage is nuder the direction of Mr. Jake Kortz, of Paducah. The arrangement are perfect and, as Mr. Kortz is an expert hand at the business, the goods of the Pilgrimage will go to customers looking second to none. The company is bottling some of its goods, which is considered as fine whisky as can be found in the state. The liquor is placed in a large copper tank and passes through a per fect filtering midline before reaching the bottles. Mr. Kortz has a force of han Is who cork, seal and lable, the bottles.J'hey are then put in cases and are- ready for shipment We were surprised to learn of the enormous quantity of whisky in the Pilgrimage warehouse. There are two tremendous houses, both built on the most modera plan. In these are stored 4,330 to 4,430 barrels of whiskey. It is worth a trip out there just to go threujh these enormous warehouses. As manager, Col. Miller is said to be one of the best in Kcntueky. He h:s en ie control over tl:e plant, and whatever he wants or suggests is promptly granted by the company, which goes to show .the high estimation they have for him. We do n t know of any man who comes any nearer attending to his own business and letting other peoples alone than does John W. Miller, nor do we know of one who will respond quicker to a request by a friend for a favor. By close attention to business, and splendid management, he has gotten in shape to enjoy the "shady side of Ea- 2 - AT W. T. Walker and .Mr. Joe L. rnold have charge of Uncle Sam's af fairs as and gauger, re spectively. They have a great-dea- l of business to attend to and are kept on the go. The judge, as usual, finds time to tell jokes and keep everyone him in a good humor. The IMgrimage runs six months in the year, consequently puts much money in the hands of iaboreas who iive in Lancaster. The whisky is ship ped all over the United States, and nearly every day a car load is taken from the special side track. Those who know claim the whisky made at the Pilgrimage is as fine as any produc ed in the state, and, judging from the ready sale it meets, the opinion must be true. It Distressing Accident. Last Friday, at Taint Lick, George, son of Mr. I. C. the little Rucker, was caught in the mill machinery at that place and instantly killed. The little fellow, we underbasement of the stand, had gone mill and was standing near a grind stone. His clothing caught in a rapidly revolving shafting- and he was whirled rapidly around, his head striking the floor at each revolution. When found life was extinct The little body was brought here Saturday and interred in the Lancaster Cemetery,, the junior classes of the Graded School, of which he was a former member, attending and taking part in the ceremonies. George was an exceedingly bright little fellow and a great favor-it- e with the people while he lived in Lancaster.
