crop report for the season that for the month of November has been Issued from the State Agricultural 1 Department It reads as follows The drouth prevailing in nearly all parts of the State is almost unprece dented in itsaeverlty From nearly every county the crj cornea that stock water is scarce and stock is being driven for miles to water In many places the streams springs and cis terns have given out causing a wa ter famine for man as well as beast There is great complaint that nearly all grass seed sown for meadows has perished for want ot moisture There Iis also apprenensiou thatt a large part of the wheat rye and winter oats seed will perish from the same cause The i ibut sown grain came up all right there nas not been suilicient moisture in the ground for it to make any progress The grain sown later remains nnspronted in the ground yet It remains to be seen what the effects will be if the drouth continues much longer + I IThecorn crop generally in the State I is a good one many counties report ing a bumper crop while others notably in the fourth division of the State report an exceedingly short crop The acreage of wneut was not in creased as expected only a tow counties reporting an increase above an average while quite a number fall much below The drouth setting in so early that it interfered with pre paring the land for wheat accounts for tht small acerage sown The amount of laud seeded to rye is a full average The acerngs of winter oats is below the average largely on a cconnt of the failure last season The tobacco was saved in good con dition Free from frost wormcut and dirt it ought to be a very useful crop While the crop is not a large one anywhere it is resorted to oe quite a short one in the first and fourth dis tricts Live stock aro fully up tu the standaul in numbers and conditions The apple crop for winter is less than a half crop All things consid ered the farmer has many things to be thankful for and can eat his Thanksgiving turkey with praise to his GOt gad selfcongratulation that it might have been worse Dotnt Respect Old Age Its shameful when youth fails to show proper respect for old age but just the contrary in the case of on Fears and Hope Objects of the Divine Complacency Iron the text Psalm cxlvll 11 The Lord tak eth pleasure in them that fear him and in those that hope In his mercy Mr 4 Boston rafter an introduction in four i sections deduced six doctrines each subdivided Into from three to eight heads but the last doctrine required another sermon which contained a r practical improvement of the whole k arranged under eightysix heads A sermon on Matthew xl 28 was subdi vided into seventysix heads On this text indeed Mr Boston preached four such sermons It is more than doubtful whether any brains or hearts south of the Tweed could have stood the strain of such discourses But a Scotch preacher not in the present degenerate age hast been known to preach from five to sI- r hours at a stretch and sometimes r when one preacher had finished his sermon another would begin and there would bo a succession of preachers delivering sermon upon sermon until the unhappy congregations were kept listening to the
