guests of Mr and Mrs W H Bowmer Sunday THE FIRST EVER Automobile Here Sunday Only One To Pass Through This Part Of The State Tne automobile which came down the pike from Hurdlnsbnrg Sunday afternoon and stopped here that night was the first to make a trip through this section of the State The machine was driven by G L Motteler ana son O S Motteler of Louisville They left Louisville at 0 oclock Sunday morning and arrived here about 6 oclock in the afternoon Their first stop was at West PoInt where they lost an hour while being ferried over Salt river From West Point they went to Vine Grove thence to Big Spring and then to Hardinsburg The roads they said were in very bad condition Consid eying the length of their route and the hilly country over which they came their speed was very good The machine driven by Messrs Uotteler was an Overland automo bile which IP an 800 pound gasoine affair They lett here Monday morn ing at 030 oclock for Cannelton and jventnolly Rockport and Owensooro averaging- In weight about lSOOlbs to Hardaway fe Co of Louisville and received the top of the market in prior W J COOK DEAD WellKnown Farmer Of Hancock County Died Near Town Sat urday At An Old Age William 1 Cook for years a well known and prosperous farmer of Han cock county died suddenly Saturday morning at the home of his niece Mrs Loudy Thompson about two miles south of this city on the Bow ling Green road Early in the morn- Ing he had three attacks of convul sions and died shurtly attar undergoing much suffering For twenty five years he had nad vertigo Mr Cook had been making his home with Mrs Thompson tor about a year He formerly reside about sev en miles west of this city in Hancock county For fifty years he farmed near Skillman And was wellknown in that section He had sold h is farm on Indian creek and also one on Blackford but left several thousands dollars in a Hawesville bank Mr Cook was born in Grayson county in 1821 Years ago he mar ried Miss Pirthenia Richie of Hancock county eleven children being born to the union but only one Mrs Elmina Sherer surviving A sister Mrs Sarah Lloyd of Curdsville also survives Mr Cook Many friends were numbered among Mr Cooks acquaintances in this and Hancock counties He was a good citizen and a man liked by everyone who knew him He was a member of the M E church and was an Odd FellowThe funeral was held Sunday after noon Be Erect ed Here As Stated By Louis ville Paper A news item appeared in Mondays Louisville Herald to the effect that n number of Cloverports business men have organized a stock company and will build a button factory This is an error The gentlemen referred to in the Herald have been making an effort to organize a stock company- to build a button factory for this city but have not succeeded and have giv en up the project tor this year at least Under big headlines appeared the following in Mondays Herald several paragraphs being omitted Capitalists Cloverport are arrang ing to add a button factory to the mnsselshell industry that during the past two years has developed among the towns on both the Indiana and the Kentucky side Of the Ohio river A joint stock company iIs being organized to establish n plant to be known as the Cloverport Pearl Button factory The capital stock of the concern is 0000 and the pro moters are Marlon Weatherholt R L Oelze Dr A A Simons and H A Oelze A factory building is to be erected and the plant will have a daily capacity of 200 gross of buttons The buttons are to be made of mussel shells which are dragged from the bottom of the Ohio river It delegates to attend the great convention that Iii to be held in Virginia in the near future KILLED HIMSELF Asbury Searles Bleeds To Death From Wound Accidentally In Flicted By Own land While out hunting in the Glendeaue section last Thursday Asbury Searles a sixteeuyear old boy accidentally shot and killed himself He was standing with his left arm resting icrosa the muzzle of the gun The gun was accidentally discharged and the load of shot tooK effect in hie arm just above the elbow severing tile numoral artery As considerable time passed Before help came to him and a longer time before a
