Tsushima the greyhounds of the Japanese navy the fleet Rus sian cruiser Novlk has been vdn qulshed The fight occurred Sunday Afterward the Novik in a sinking con KprsakovakrThe details of the fight are not s known Jiere but it is evident that the Chltoso and Tsushima caught up with the Novik Saturday and that a run ning fight ensued The contest was i + resumed and terminated early Sun day morning Captain Sukelchlro Takahashi who is in command of the Ghitose reported the engagement in a brief telegram vrhlch reached the navy department here He says he first attacked the Russian cruiser Sat urday afternoon and that on Sunday morning he inflicted heavy damage upon her The Novik nearly sank but she was beached at Korsakovsk 11Temporary repairs rendered the Russian cruiser seaworthy and she continued to fight The Japanese suf fered no casualties The Imperial prince Yorlglto of the house of HlgoahlFusimi is second In command on board the Chltose Captain Sento commanded the Tsus Lima The fate of the crew of the Novik Is not known but it Is thought they abandoned their vessel and landed at Korsakovsk It is generally thought bore that the Chltose and Tusushima steamed in close to from his home by two menc who lived in a large house He was wall treated y FUNERALS OF THE VICTIMS ARE HELD Remains of Riedel and Lishen Brought to This City for Interment Last Week PROPERTY LOSS ABOUT 50000 The funeral of Walter E Riedel of this olty who lost his life in the wreck on the Henderson Route at Spottsrille on Monday August 3 an account of whcih was given in the News last week was conducted from the Presbyterian church lust Wednes day afternoon The service at the church was conducted by Rev S O Cnristian The interment was at the city cemetery where the Brother hood of Locomotive Firemen took charge of the remains The funeral was attended by many people from this city Holt Louisville and other pointsThe body of Wallace Lishen was not recovered from the wreck until last Friday morning The remains were taken to Henderson and prepared for burial They were brought to this city on the afternoon train und taken directly to the city cemetery where the interment took place in the presence ol a large concourse of people including the K of P and A O U W lodges of which he was a member A short service was held by each of the lodges and by Rev S 0 Christian The inquests over the death of Riedel and Lishen sari of the unknown man und woman whose bodies were b and in the wreck threw little more Hgnt on the cause of the wreck than what was given in the News last week The veidict of the coroners jury was that Riedell came to his death bv the fall into Ureen river and that Lichens death was caused by drowning and burning His body was found under a hay press lying next to the engine Edgar Simmons and Estill Nation who live near Cloverport were among escapedrdeath They were returning from Tennessee where they had been at work and ran to the rear of the trai parrt of it was going to plunge into Ureen river All ol the wreckage has been re covered from Ureen river except engine No 10 which pulled the illfat ed train The actual property loss isi The above committee after exam ing the certified chemical analysis of in the various brands registered in the State and obtaining the lowest bids from their representative agents re ported that all the concerns were turn fug out some high grade goods and at a moderate price but that none is making II higher grade of goods than the Armour Co and none that will sell quite as cheaply as the Armour Co through their agents the Irving tun Milling Co of Irvington The committee therefore advised fartneis to ask the Irvington Milling Co for prices on their Armour goods Before the adjournment of this meeting another committee composed of S C Dowell E H Shellman and T B Henderson was appointed to continue this fertiizor research and to solicit bids based on the nitrogen phosphoric acld and potash People Attended 1 It was a crowd with plenty of money and it knew how to spend it too It was a welldressednnorderly and a fun mnking and fun en joying crowd that attended the third annual Ma sons barbecue in tIns city lostThurs day People were here from all points in Breckenridge and from Hancock Meade Perry and other neighboring counties Many touts just for the pleasure of the outing that a day spent at A big barbecue is sure to furnish Jut there were others and many of them too who came to greet old friends and acquaintances making it truly a name coming day for former residents of Cloverport hud Breokenndge county There wore about 2000 ott of town people on the grounds and in town during the day While the crowd was not an large as that at the second annual Masons barbecue it was a better crowd when it came to spending inoney and having a good time The barbecue was given in the beautiful Skillman grove just east of the city Here the big crowd in holiday attire found plenty of shade plenty to eat and drins and occa sionally a cooling northwest breeze And there was something to keep them amused most of the time Con fetti was truly the great fun maker These are briefly some of the ben efits to come to you through a farmers club that will never come from a single handed effort Various subjects could ne assigned at our meetings for discussion at the next meeting and
