Ella Plank wife of Mr P D Plank Maatei Mechanic of the L H K St L shops in this city passed away at 2 oclock yesterday morning after an illness of two years The end came peacefully and as throughout her illness she was calm and nucom plaining Death was due to consump tionMrs Plank was formerly Miss Thompson and was born at Holley yUle Iowa in 1801 After her mar riage to Mr Plank they resided in a number of cities in the country and for the last eight or ten years they made their home In this city where both made many friends Mrs Plank was known to a host of friends as a woman of beautiful character of deep sad true religions ex perience as a woman of charity and kindness to all who needed her help She was an active worker in the Methodist church South of which she was a consistent and ever faithful member She was also a member of the Ladies Aid and Womans Foreign Missionary fiooietles among vrhioh her ever helping hand and bright cheerful presence will be missed In church and things were done in the way of public im provements several things of benefit to the city were accomplished and the finances were kept in a good condition In 1002 as shown by the city treasur ers most Jinportant are 1st Anniform Pet of text books to be furnished at a maximum price and ne also shows the disadvantage in giving each county the right to adopt text books 2nd He urges the extension of the rural school term and says that it can be done without increasing the taxes a single penny The present 50 cent State tax is ap portioned as follows 22H cents to the general fund 22 cents to the school fund 5 cents to the sinking fund and J4 cent to tbe State College At the time the original apportionment placed ft cents in the sinking fund it was necessary in order to pay interest on the States bonds and also accum elate an amount sufficient to retire them at maturity Now that thin bonded Indebtedness has been discharged by the purchase of the bonds through the recent collection of our war claim it will no longer be neces sary to place 5 cents in the sinking fund 2 cents will be amply sufficient to keep the sinking fund intact 8 cents can be transferred from nn1 sinking to the school fund and Auditor states that 23 cents can be transferred from the general fund This would make 5 cents addition to the school fund which would be about 440000 more annually to the schools and
