each i wentlimdbody of Margarette Dorsey the little Japanese girl after her escape fro m the MoClures and that we found her body in a terribly bruised condition also several wonndssome partly heal ed which looked like burns We fnthermore testify that the said Mar garette informed us that Mrs Mc Clure was responsible for aforesaid places by striking her with a redhot poker She also informs us that both Mr and Mrs McClure caused the terribly bruised condition of her body by brutally beating and striking her which they habitually did She also said they nearly starved her and her terribly drawing a good salary and is well pleased with ois position fiIa MONDAY A DAY OF ACCIDENTS Geo Zirckles Foot Cut Off b TrainTwo Men Receive Mashed Hand Each OTIIER MISHAPS OF THE WEEK Geo Zirckle of Louisville a brake man was run over by freight train No 08 on the Henderson Route at Lodibnrg Monday night and hie foot was cut off just below the instep He slipped off the tank and fell un der the wheels He was brought on the freight to the shops just below town where his wound was washed by Dr Simons surgeon for the rail road He was taKen to Louisville on the early morning train yesterday It is thought that his leg will have to be amputated just above the ankle Mr Zircklo is a halfbrother of E H Zirckle the engineer- A very sad accident occured up in Eastland last Sunday to one of Mr Robert Boards children Two of his little boys were playing in the yard when one of them threw a brick b at striking the other on the head and fracturing the skull The little fellow is in a critical condition and his re covery is doubtful Dr F M Smith was called in and is giving the child medical attention Mr Board and his family lately moved here from near Hardinsburg Chas Wagner a machinist at the L H St L shops was accidently struck on the right hand by a sledge hammer Monday and three fingers were badly mashed The injury la very painful but not serious Will Garrett who is a tenant on the Clint Murray farm near town suffered a mashed hand Monday while placing a back log on the fire at his homeJohn Burn let a heavy timber fall on the instap of his foot Monday while at work at the L H Sh L shops and the member was badly bruised The injury was very painful and compelled him to quit work Will Mattingly and Alvin McGav OCK are each suffering from a sprained ankle received while playing foot ball the first of the week Local Company of Militia An application paper for the organ ization of a company of State Guards in this city has been signed by over fortv men of this city and known to have an ambition in that direction Mr Smith is tho recognized leader of the Kentucky delegation in the House and stands next to Mr Williams of Mississippi as a party lender on the minority side Beckham and Smith both live in this Congressional district and if they both become candidates for the Senate the Fourth dis trict will witness a contest which will make the Montgomery Robertson fight of a number of years ago palo into insignifi cance Senator Blackburn of course is a candidate for re election and the old war horse has never lost a fight yet he has made for party honors His Reception ABOUT 200 GUESTS PRESENT The swellest event in local colored society and perhaps in the connty for years was the silver wedding re ception of Rev and Mrs F T Field ing at the African Methodist church last Friday evening Abci two hun dred invitations were Iis adand near ly every one was ar opted as the church was almost full Some nf the older colored people say that it was the most pleasant and best conducted social affair they have ever witnessed in Cloverport I About 8 oclocit the first guests be gan to arrive The services which were conducted by Rev Franklin pastor of the African Methodist church of Hardlnsburg began with an appropriate song After the singing the congregation stood in prayer which was led by Rev Franklin The ceremony was performed next by Rev Franklin Rev Fielding was accompanied np tho aisle by Will Allen and Mrs Fielding by Mrs FranklinAfter the ceremony the guests went to the tables where they were served with cream cake and fruits They remained opinion and Mr Ashleys are quite different I think everything was done fair and I think the judges gave the first prize to the man that deserved it for I think Mr Stewart played what would be termed old time music Im sure every piece ne played was played fifty years ago And I think if Mr Ashley could hear some of the real upto date music ho would see quite a con trast between that Mr Stewart played and what is called late music Mr Ashley was like myself play ing for the f25 but I knew when I saw Mr Stewart in Cloverport that we had all as well lay down our fiddle and bow for I had heard hint play enough to know what he could do Im perfectly satisfied myself over the contest and if they ever have another one Im going to enter for I enjoy such sport a+ well as a man coull I have hoard from 1800 to 1000 in hest illustrated by figures published by the Bureau of Statistics of the Depart ment of Commerce and Labor They tell at n glance the romantic story of the development of the nation of its increase in area in population In wealth in resources agriculture in manufacturing in minerals in com merce and in education To the casual observer this remarkable century of growth told in plain matter of fact figures illustrates the unchecked ad vancement of the nation from a few millions of people skirting the Atlan tic coast to one of the great powers ot the world unequaled in wealth and resources It shows what has been accomplished by an alert progressive energetic industrious inventive con structive and Indomitable people in a period covering only a small part of the worlds history It is a record unequaled and which needs no adorn ment to add to its interest Our greatest development has been of course in the last three decades of the century In many instances figures for the first half of the century are not obtained because prior to 1850 the statistical records of the government are comparatively meager Yet they are sufficient to furnish a most Abraham Lincoln The other day I was reading on the suggestion Mr Hay a little speech not often quoted of his yet which seems to me one ol the most remark able that ne over made delivered right after realize that the man who had just uome successfully through a great political contest in which he felt that so mnuii was at stake for tin nation that he had no time to think whether or not anything was at stake for himself The speech is devoid of the least shade of bitterness There is not a word of unseemly triumph over those who had been defeated There is not a word of glorification of himself or in any improper sense of bin party There is an earnest appeal now that the election is over now that the civ ic strife has been completed for all decent wen who love the country to join together in
