are how l ever not now in Europe dating back to the time of FrederICK the Great After the military triumphs of Prussia in the war with Austria in 1800 and with France in 18701871 autumn maneuvers thinking voters of the State he will certainlyI see to it that a true and reliable statement ol the facts in the case are made public The Herald saysGov Beckham undoubtedly believes the figures are accurate that he uses In his speeches and he bases this belief on his confidence in those officers who made up the list of pardons It maybe that the list is correct i but corres pondents from several counties have pointed out what is claimed to b e omissions and give the names th crimes for which the persons wer convicted the time of pardon and circumstances And this gives this opponents and especially to the Louisville Herald an apparent advantage in this debate concerning pardons that he ought not to permit It is due to his own honor and to hisI own character for franxuess to hav I those alleged omissions and I carefully examined into and have th I exact facts made public In our view the number of pardons is of com paratively small importance compared with other elements lint PROSPERITY Evidences uf prosperity in the gen eral acceptance of the word in Breck enridge county in both town and country are being noted by the citizens of each community with much pleasure and satisfaction and anticipation as to what the future holds for the county Some of the late crops are the best in years and the year has been a most favorable one for the farmer The railroads have had an Immense amount of traffic both pat senger and freight stOCK raising iit being carried on on a larger scale the tie and stets and other timber industries are receiving more atten tion and more attention Is being paid to the mineral resources of the county New manufacturing industries are locating In the principal towns and the merchants of every community are enjoying a more extensive trade The people are asking for more modern improvements and are realizing that they must have them If they hope to keep pace with other progres sive communities In a word every branch of business is prospering as the year draws to n close and the outlook for the material prosperity of Breck enridge county for the year 1004 is very bright and encouraging- Mr John Phelon the tobacco handler of this city says that the tobacco crop in Breckenridge county is the largest in nine years The weed is of a fine quality and size and has not been damaged by insects tnl unfavor able weather The corn crop is in an excellent condition and an im mense yield is predicted A number of facts liKe the above might be given to prove the state ments made in the opening paragraph But this step is unnecessary Attention need be called to only one more evidence of prosperity and that is the excellent financial success of the Louisville Henderson St Leu is railway during the year ending June 30 which will be found in another column ot this issue A railroad is made by the country through which it runs and the prosperity of the road may be taKen as an index to the pro press and development of that country Kentucky Trac tion Co to Run Through Cloverport MAIN ROAD THROUGH COUNTY Louisville Ky Sept DThe Ken tucky Traction Company yesterday amended its articles of incorporation increasing the capitalIIIItoeK it way issue to 6000000 and the amount of indebtedness it may incur to the same anoint This line proposes to build within M snort time a line along the Elghteenth street road to the mouth otI Salt river which is a distance eighteen miles from the city Later it intends to construct a line from that point to Bowling Green and Nash ville with branchs to Owensboro and Hopklnsville President Joshua Pow ors of the United Status Trust Co said yesterday that arrangements haw been completed by which the road will be financed The work of construction however will not begin until the legal light being made by City Attorney Henry L Stone on the ordinance rec ently passed by the General Council giving the road its right of way into the city is finally settled The survey has been completed from here to the mouth of Salt river A general survey has ben made of the rest of the proposed road Route of Proposed Line The route which will be followed by the road is given in the amended ar ticles of incorporation as follows The termination of the line will be nour the earner of Center and Jeffer son streets It will traverse the route grunted by the General Council to Eighteenth street and the city limits thence extending in a southwestern direction along the Eighteenth street road through Valley Station Meadow L awn and Riverview to the mouth of Salt river a distance of about eigh teen rules The amendments permit the use of either the route as given or else one running from the intersection of Seventh street and the city liinlta along the Seventh road to
