gavelmade from a piece of wood taken from the old hull two years ago in low water of the Alice Dean a Federal steamboat that- Jpbn Morgan used In July l8G3 to set his 5000 men across to the Indiana shore in his famous raid to the North The boat was sot on fire here and the hulleank about two miles below The gavel was bound in bauds of silver with the three Presidents names engraven with room for
