Allen of tt is city met with a tragic death by being literally ground to pieces by an Illinois Central train at Olaton In Ohio county Saturday night It will be remembered that ho had trouble with one of his bods Sunday night a weok ago at the short line round Iioubo After the fight that occurred ho began drinking and left home On Friday he turned up at Fordsvllle where he con- Â¬ tinued his spree He met Conductor Ri Â¬ ley of the Illinois Central road at that point and wai asked by the latter to get aboard the train but ho refused This was the last that was seen of the unfoi tunate man until his mangled body was picked up alorjr the track at Olaton How he met his death Is a mystery None of the train crew saw him on the track and a young man named Baun who conducts a store at Olaton stood within twenty yards of where the terri Â¬ ble tragedy undoubtedly occurred but did not seo the victim The accident occurred on Saturday and the remains were not found until Sun Â¬ day morning Judging from the condi- Â¬ tion of the remains Allen must have laid down on the track and the train passed over him The body was literally ground to pieces Portions of it were scattered along the track for distance of fifty yards One of the most terrible features of the tragedy developed when the search for missing portions of the remains was in- Â¬ stituted It vas found that hoia had de- Â¬ voured a portion of the body and a sec- Â¬ tion of the vertibrae that had been car-Â¬ ried away by the animals was found on the banks of the creek fifty yards away A portion of the waistband of the vic- Â¬ tims trousers was found sticking to a car wheel of a Cheapeake Ohio freight car that formed part of the train The pocket attached to the band was found to contain a nickel in money and seyeral other articles After the remains wero found the cor-Â¬ oner was notified and an inquest held The verdict found that Allen met his death by being accidentally run over by train 402 on the Illinois Central road The corporation and its employes were held blameless John Allen better known as Big John was one of the best railroad men in this section He was formerly em- Â¬ ployed by the Breckenridgo CannelCoal Company but was unemployed at the time ohls death He was buried Monday at Rosine his wife and family being present at the in- Â¬ terment It is said that he held 1000 Insurance in the
