still lovo the Ono of the most dear familiar spot noted figures in the early history of the place was Father Taylor a local Meth- ¬ odist preacher For half a century he baptized nearly all the children and married most of the couples for whom these offices are performed It is said that on one occasion ho rode several miles in the country to perform a mar- ¬ riage ceremony The weather was intensely cold the thermometer register ing several degrees below ztro After be had united the couple the groom surprised him by handing out a twiet of tobacco as the fee I The descendants of Father passed sinco then when Oct 25 1807 1 was called by letter to meet the Joseph Dall heirs in a family reunion Oct 29 at Hardinsbug which I gladly accepted as a first rate oppoitunlty to visit Ken lucky once more I reached Oloverpor Oct 28 and on the day ap otnted lor the meeting in company with Louis Pate Went to Hardinsburg there to meet H00 of the Ball heirs Too meet- ¬ ing was a very satisfactory one presided over by Dr J W Cumpton of Evans ville IndShermin Ball was secretary All passed offprcfluble to those present but alas how many faces we missed from that throng Many who we wished to Bee we were told had gone to their renardsand woud meet with us no more heret Among those who had lived lo ilpe old fg and had lived exemplary Uvea here who had gono to meet their God whom we love were see the young generation stepping in to take the placo of those who fell out of tho ranks and doing it so honorably The first Sabbath in November I worshiped In dear old Clov- ¬ er Creek Church where in my sixteenth year I was converted and united with the church at that place I was a Bap tist then since comirg to Missouri I became more liberal In my views and haye been a good Methodist for thirty five years How everything has changed in fact nothing Beemed natural but a few timo worn faces The farms do not seem to lay as they use to the hills seem to bo much higher and steeper or at least it wearied me more to climb them At the time of my last visit there was not a railroad in Breckenridge county the nearest point to one was Louisville Now the iron horse goes puffing right through Hardinsburg and the thrifty town of Jolly Station has been populated I had Ihe privilege of witnessing an- ¬ other electidn 1n Kentucky which was a yery quiet one I was rejoiced to see my native state turn from tho error of her ways and come back into the Dem- ¬ ocratic fold from which I hope they will never stray again I notice tobacco is still in tho lead of agricultural products Well do I re- ¬ member the many nghts my boyish back has ached from worming and hoe ¬ ing tobacco You scarcely ever see a stalk of tobacco grown In this part of Missouri notwithstanding this fact three fourths of the
