hold It consequently they aro not afraid of its being rejected All of theso conditions contribute to give us rather an unsatisfactory market this week It should be added however that medium and good leaf when specially sound and in keeping order usually elicits strong competition and the hogshead brings near Its worth Very common lugs and trash Is also sell- Â¬ ing reasonably well Colory grades still has tho call on other types Dark tobacco is steady and fairly strong at the low figures quoted If thero was any way to securo a reasonable amount of competition on dark tobacco this type would seem to be in n strong position The stocks hold aro not excessively large and the reports from the dark dis- Â¬ trict as to tho condition of the now crop is not encouraging It is well known that tho plant beds in the dark district suffered much moro than in the Burley country tho ravages from cut worms were much worse and now they aro suf- Â¬ fering from drouth with a large propor- Â¬ tion of the crop yet unset In some sections thoy have had no rain since early in May and tho drouth caught the later planting before they had fully taken root and now it is probable that a great deal of this will either die or prove almost worthless With tills condition surrounding the dark market prices should Improve and as stated abovo if there was any way to obtain competition between foreign buyers prices would improve But when the foreign buyers agree with each other that one of them will buyal Jhe dark at one warehouse and another all at the next house and not hid against each other there seems
