fountain of sympathy flowing Not that sympathy can in any way effect the woman who was hounded to her death by the emissaries of ignorance anr tyranny who pose as protectors of society but because it may awake to action those who have high and noble IrteaU that the common herd have never dreamed of I have no knowledge of the nature of the work Ida C Craddock was en gaged in for which she was con demned to prison I never read a line of her writings but the press generally admits that she was are fined and cultured woman inspired with the idea of elevating the human race by shedding more light and knowledge on the present marriage system If our present marriages stem is not fetid with wrongs why is the American press calling on the leaders of thought and the brains of conservatism to discuss it If the system contains all good aid no evil why should the great metropolitan dallies weight down their columns with this subject As long as It is discussed from the clerical or ortho dox standpoint there is no danger sig nal raised but let grand souls arise freighted with new and lofty thoughts and grander Ideas than have ever peen realized in the most sacred of all human relations and they are pursued to prison or death by self constituted censors who pose as protectors of public morals Ida C Craddock whether her ideals were right or wrong was just such a woman was so imbued with her principles that rather than re sign them she died WITH them and for them There have been compar atively few of the human race who have laid down their lives for their something akin in the tragic fates of Robert Emmett and Ida Cradock Though the law took the Irish martyrs life and Ida C Craddock took her own life they both gladly welcomed death for their principles Until the writings and the motives of this woman are pass ed upon by competent sociologists physicians and judges Let no one dare attaint her memory by believing that she was engaged in any cause save that of the
