Breckinridge and in common with ail the rest of us appreciated and geniusbutsense must see that the fact of Breckin ridges genuis is all the greater reason why he should not be allowed to cast the Upas shadow of his influence upon this devoted land McGarveythepion of Lexingtons morals were clear cut concise forcible moderate and con servative though reasoned with the At tic salt wit that his not believe that any con siderable portion of the followers of Colonel Breckinrid e are conscious that their support of him involves such an sUPJortedfor his misfortune Christian forgiveness of his sin or the belief that he can best serve his district in Con gress a close analysis of such reasons supports the conclusion stated Some of such reasons while creditable to man nature but illustrate misguided responses of generous nature and some exigenciesof such reasons clearly shows that his confessed immoralities are minimized or that forgiveness is confounded with the issue stated from which there is no escape I can not doubt that a renomination of Colonel Breckinridge will be disastrous to the best interest of the Ashland District the State of Ken tucky and the Democratic party of the nation These times impose duties up on every member of the Democratic par tyeach of us must meet that duty and I have confidence in the intelligence and integrity of my party and I can not doubt the Democraoof the Ashland district will issue presented to them as they have the is sues in the past and that the result will be approveIdulge in harsh or hard words in criticis ing those who differ with us I trust the result of the meeting will be a manly appeal to the intelligence and courage of this dictrict Trusting your meeting will in every sense secure that success its purposes merit I am with
