Madisonville 1SPECT0R LONG AND VOLUNTEERS GET INTO MINE BUT FIND NO BODIES 'One Man Blown From Bottom of Shaft 300 Feet to Surface CHIEF INSPECTOR NORWOOD NOW ON THE SCENE but tho response said the car was at Knoxville, Tenn. Tho usual night force 1b from 15;to 18 men and the report was at first current on the Btreets of Madisonvlllo that eighteen men had been lost. Thoso who looked at the shaft following tho noise of the explosion Baw much timber and debrlB flying high in the air. Then a great mass of dense, black smoke rolled out of the shaft and the air from the mine cleared in a short time. Fortunately no fire followed the exploslou. The damage cannot be estimated until the wreckage is removed and the mine explored. Mr. Hollowell was formerly employed at the Victoria mine and was well known hero. Ho was about 21 yours old and leaves a wife and one child. Mrs. Hollowell was so overcome by the news that her life was for a time almost despalrod of. Yesterday afternoon Assistant Inspector Long, Thos. Peytou, H. R. Tweedle and others reached the bottom yf tho main shaft and explored all the mine that was accessible, but were unable to locate any bodies, which are now known to be burled under the debris and may be in the sump at the foot of the main shaft, which is flllod with wreckage of the shaft and mine. Some eighty feet of the partition in tho main shaft was torn out by the exploslpn. The searchers found the bodies of all four of the mules that were in the mine. Chief Inspector O. J.
