Aeroplane flights- at The Providence Fair On behalf ot the management of the Providence Fair Association I think a brief statement is due those who attended our lair on Friday andI Saturday last with expectations of seeing aeroplane flights which weI had extensively advertised On July 11th we entered into a contract with the Grav Eagle Aviation Company through their office In Louisville Ky by which this aviation company was to send a firstclass bl plane of Curtiss model and a competent aviator to make lights in the air of thirty minutes duration at our fair grounds on Fri day and Saturday August 4 and 5 This aviation company was highly recommended as haying made suc cessful flights at various places and we made the contract with them in good faith and advertised the same in good faith just as we have adver our other attractions at onr fairs heretofore That these flights were disappointing and nrore or less a failure was no fault upon the part of the fair association in any manner as we performed our part of the con tract to the letter which was to fur nish a level ground 400 feetwide and and 1000 feet long and keep the same clear of obstructions sad spectators We were to pay 60000 for the flights if no flights on account of wind or weather we were to pay 10000 The aviation company wanted us to compromise and pay them onehalf the contract priso for the exhibitions given and which we decline to do on the grounds that no successful flights had been pulled off and we would not be a party to any compromise The Provinenco Agricultural Fair Association is composed of nearly one hundred stockholders and ia fairly well representative of the peo ple of Provideuco and surrounding country and the directors and offi cials are to wpll known to our home people to puke It neooeasary for usI to say that we were in the best of good faith in our efforts to put on aeroplane exhibitions For the ben efit of those good people who came from a distance and who do not know us we wish to say that we were at all times in the beat of faithI and did our best to make good ourI advertising aud we assure you that the burden of the disappointment falls much more heavily upon us than
