ICE'S PARTY LEAVE SEPT. 2ND The Earlington Bee will on Sept. 2nd. send the five Ladies in Hopkins county receiving the five highest number of votes in tne Bee's Cave Contest, to Mammoth Cave via Evansville and the Green River, with all expenses paid. We have succeeded in getting the extremely low rates of $17,50 from Earlington and Madison ville to the Cave and return, and will take a limited number at this price. The largest number we can take on the City of Evansville is 35 and already over 20 haye signified, their intention of going. ;We must haye your names by Aug 25th ifyou wish to make the trip: The names of parties going will be published in a last issue. Send'in your name now ifyou want to make one of the party. In speaking of the Cave the Evansville Couier Says: Mammoth Cave starts at Evansville, That is, if you want to see the cave utfder the most delightful conditions you must approach it via the Gateway to the South. The greatest natural wonder between Niagara and the Yosemite is approached by a river so picturesque, so charming in its natural and varied beauty, that if it were in Europe it would-b- e included in the grand tour of poet, artist and dreamer. Green river debouches into the Ohio eight miles above Evansville and the steamboat line between this cjtyand Bow ling Greenthe Evansville and Boy- the ling GreenPacket fjjurist thrpugh the winding stream, between the verdant banks which give the river its name, to the very gates of the city. What could better attune the mind 4i io the wonders of Mammoth cave ttfan to approach by a dreamy boat rick, much of it through the heart of virgin forests, till the more rugged l&ls and grander cliffs proclaim nature's great marvel is near at hand! ' Mammoth Gave is visited chiefly by the student or the hurried tourist. Evansville parties are accustomed to go up on one boat, spend two days at the cave, which is ample time for a single exploration of its magnificent depths,Jandlthen return on the next boat. But there is no reason why the stay snould not be prolonged. The hotel at the cave is a good one, the climate is salubrious, the scenery is varied and pleasing. None hotels in the of the tnousand-roome- d Adirondacks furnish Catskills or the And surroundings. finer natural cave. But the summer visthen the itor has not yet turned his footsteps towards the cave. Possibly if the government should buy it and transform it into a national park, it would attract the throngs that now pass it by for other scenes of nature's grandeur less wonderful. As it is, the cave is the best short excursion from Evansville. It can be made in something less than a week the boat trip and the cave. line-rcar- nes' OJm8Xll9J&MWJtl9&flI.Mv&r Turner Lodge No G48,JUJnd.A. TS7,held in the'bTlodge room InEarl-- . Bowling Green, Oct. eral Assembly cf Kentucky, subject . . 4-- yesterday morning about six o'clack ana before the day was much older many of them were busy about their various occupation, but often stopped to answer queries as to their experience. The Earlington people are always interested in the doing" of our own people and especially the doings and welfare of our home company of tho Kentucky State Guard, who, individually and as amlllitary organization, hold a warm place in the hearts of our people. The boys did not all get borne, for the reason that several of them shot too well and had to remain with the rest of the "expert riflemen," all of whom, from the three regiments, will now compete together for places. on the teanr to go to the national "shoot" at Camp Perry, Ohio. Co. G's. "expert riflemen"" of this year are Capt. Henry Rogers, Thos. Peyton, Pete Davis and Luther Boyd. Seventeen members of the company qualified as "marksmen" at .O'Rell his year. There are some fifty expert riflemen from the three regiments at O'Rell now competing for places on the National team. Out of this number twelve members and three alternates will be chosen, who make the beBt records. It will take perhaps until the 18th of this mouth to pet this team selected and finish the practice shooting at O'ltell. Then tho team will go direct to Camp Perry and will get home about the last of August. Last year tho Third regtmont carried off a very large proportion of the honors of this compotlon and sent nine out of the twelve men who made up tho team to the national shoot. Two of the nine. Capt. Rogers and Luther Boyd went from Company G. Capt. W. It. NIsbet, assistant Bnr- Tjeon, was put in charge of the hos pital corps upon his arrival at camp and was in command of that department continuously during the stay of G Company. Sick calls were not many and the sanitary conditions were kept in excellent shape during the time. Mrs Henry Rogers, 'who has been for some days at Camp O'Rell, has felt quite au improvement in health during her stay and haB not yet returned home. MrB. Rogers found very pleasant quartets, at a farm house adjacent to the rifle range. '. The editor of Tho Bee spent part Of last Thursday in the camp and extended, to the officers in ohargo an invitation to bring the State Guard to Earlington next year. Tho soldier boys ut G Company got back from the "front" at O'Rell ehurch at Madisonville, read a scripture lessou and offered a prayer, and two appropriate songs were sung by a choir composed of friends of the family. Following this short service officers aud members of E. W. Turner Lodge took charge of tho remains and led tho procession to the Earlington cemetery, where tbe remains were Interred with Masonic honors, the service being led by Frank D. Rash, master of tho lodge. The pall bearers were James R. RaBh, Ohas. Cowelk T. R. Farquhar, B. L. Stokes. J.
