Resolution t The biggest Republican county convention ever held In Hopkins s was pulled off at Madieonvillo leat Saturday at which the court house was packed to overflowing with a goodly number of Democratic guests on hand The convention was called to order by Oounty Chairman J B Harvey at 180 oclock The ad her ents of E ToO Franks and Lieut Gov united in the nomluatlon of jWill P Scott for temporary chair man and Gee 0 Atkinson for tem porary secretary The ORoar forces nominated Ben T Robinson an Jed Paul M Moore for temporary ohairIi man and secretary respectively A division was ordered and the votersr formed two lines about the sour house square The count resulted in 842 votes for Scott and Atkinson 824 for Robinson and Moore After the convention reassembled the organization was made perma vent and some speaking indulged A committee on resolutions com posed of Wm Lynch Charles Ash by W S Thompson H F Porter r and P R Cabell was appointed and presently brought in its report naming a delegation and Instructing in favor of ET Franks first and Cox second This report was read by Thos E FInley In the meantime leaders of the ORear forces had gotten together and decided to make a flgiitto win Mr ORdar by offering substitute set of resolutions Paul M Moore offered as a sub tl tute a set of resolutions which en dora d by name Gov Augustus E Wilson and President Taft and their administrations and the course of United States Senator Bradley i and instructed the delegation to be named to vote in the State conven tion in favor of Hon Ed C ORear for governor The Mines has submitted an annual report for the calendar of 1910 The report in part as follows tFor statistical purposes the Ken tucky coalfields ari Jevlded into three districts namely The Wee tern whlcli Includes all counties in the Western coalfield the Southern which includes Bell Harlan Jack on Knox Laurel Pulaski Rook Wayne and Whitley counties nd the Northeastern which at pt eeent Includes all other counties the Eastern coalfield The coal statistics reported= brIofficer refer only to the com ludeennot only shipping mines but such of those that employ an average of more than five persons underground s are of commercial importance lo rally The number of the latter II quite small The production of commercial coal amountedby far the largest output known in he annals of mining in tho strikes in Indiana and Illinois which widened the northward mar kef for Western Kentucky coal The gains in the other districts were due chieflyto the increasing devel opmbnt qf mmlng operations in the Eastern field- Compared with that for 1900 the output for1910 shows a gain of 9699 886 tons or an increase of over 193 cent in annualjproductlon wlth the ten years The increase over 1905 waft 6670863 tons or A gain of 83 per cent in yearly output within the last five years The advance made by the North eastern district In the last five years is significant In 1905 the produc toneej In 1007 It reached a million tons and in 1910 it passed the two million mark The prospect is that one company in that district will alone be putting out four million tons per annum at an early day May Not Be So Large While It is very questionable whether the production for the year 1911 will equalthat of 1910 develop ments under way In the Eastern coalfield not only In the Big Sandy and Kentucky River regions but in the upper Cumberland region Bell Knox and Harlan counties as well indicate that the output for 1912 will surpass It should the western district hold its own Of the coal shipped from the Northeastern district 1583 tons from the Big Sandy region were msde Into coke at Ashland The total amojant of coal converted into coke therefore was 98066 tons No better coals are sent to mar ked from
