CORPS OF EIGHT TRAINED MEN EFFECTED First Kentucky Mines to Get These Denv ry onstrations Red Cross Corps Rescue Oar No8 of the Dd ti partment of Mines United States Geological Survey left Earing ton Saturday after rounding out two full weeks here Daring this time those in charge of the car have spent morning after noon and evening explaining and demonstrating to all comers the apparatus and the work of rescue and first aid to the injured and in drilling numerous fore men and picked miners in the f use of oxygen helmets and the Work of first aid and rescue Several full days have been spent in the Arnold mine of the St Bernard group which was given over by the owners for the purpose drilliug the men in actual use of oxygen helmets for hours at u time in noxious at mosphere created by the burning of sulphur The eight Earl ington men whose names follow will receive certificates of corn potency for the rescue work for having undergone fifteen hours or more of training in noxious atmosphere W 1J Jennings Lawson Miles W R Brasher E R Burnett TJios Peyton Hulon Maddox Henry Harris and Hardin TweedleThese v certificates 1will come from Washington signed by the Director of the Geological Sur vey Dr J A Holmes They will each also receive a Rescue buttonwhich will identify then as competent men for this work should they be called to any mine disaster away from r home These men also stood a physical examination toprove their fitness to do rescue work under serious conditions One of the practical things jj that will come of the visit of Rescue Our No 8 to EllingtonY is the organization ofu Red t Orosaporps for first aid work which will be done under direc lion qf Dr W K Nisbet of the St tThisk en in a small way id the Furl ington group of mines before the comjng of the Rescue Gar Red I Gross boxes containing first aid bandages and appljances have for the past year or two been stationed at various places in these mines Now the crops wiH be organized after the special i instruction given by the firstaid expert on the Rescue Oar and will be ready for prtfc t trial service when necessary The mine operators here have given these government experts every on the hanks of the tree west of the baseball park occu pied by Riley McLear Holt and McLear with the latters wit and a Woman named Annie Bell were playing a game of cards The assassin took aim through a worn windowshade at the tear of the house and fired Circumstances support the theory that t the charge was meant tor the Bell woman but that Holtpro bably leaned forward just as thft
