For instance, thero wero only 2113 votes cast m the whblo county for all candidates in 1898. Add to this the required 50 per cent, incrcaso, or 1057 ballots, and tho cleric on this basis would havo furnished to tho ontiro county only 3170 ballots. In tho'olec-tio- n just hold thoro was a total of 5310 votes cast in the county for tho heads of tho various tickets. Thus tho county clerk would have, ballots in como short just tho county if ho had figured with 1898 as a basis. Only 200 ballots woro furnished tho Northeast Earlington precinct by County Clerk John Ho said on tho day of election that ho had taken the 1890 vote as a basis forjnaking up tho ballot books for this yoar. If so tlnB was cither a trick, or a gross error, for a number of changes in precinct boundaries havo been mado since 1890 in the county. The Northeast Earlington precinct now takes in tho ontiro town cast of tho railroad. In 1890 Main street was a division lino and thero woro two precincts on tho oast side, both of which are principally included in tho their Buil'rago. Tho first clauso of the protest cannot bo sustained. The elec tion commissioners claim definitely to have found one man whom thoy charge voted illegally. This may bo truo, but the voter thoy havo spotted was challenged by tho Republican challenger and was passed by tho Democrntio election ollicers. Ono man is not "many and divers voters.-Tho second clauso states that tho commissioners find over sev enty names on tho northeast karlington poll book that do "not appear on tho Assessor's list of HonkiiiB county which has just boon completed." Of courso, if the assessor's list had been completed for theso precincts tho finding of such names would only bo ovidonce that tho ussessor had not found tho moil and it would not be any proof against tho citizenship of theso-moBut tho truth is that tho assessor's list for thoso precincts was not complete at tho timo tho comparison was made, and the week following tho dato of abovo lottor tho assessor for this district had, and exhibited on tho streets of Earlincton, n bumllo of individual lists .for theso precincts which ho said woro yet to bo reported. Tho comparison with tho Earlington city assessor's list ib also to tho point. This list was mado up Soptombor ICth to 25th and by a man who knows tho pooplo of Earlington thoroughly. Thoro aro listed thereon 703 mon of logal ago, subject to poll tax in tho city of Earlington. In tho wholo of tho two precincts, which includo tho town and country territory, tho total voto cast was only 080 and thoro woro many Democrats who did not como to tho polls at all. A careful poll showed 173 votes in tho two precincts living outside of Earlington city limits. Add this to tho 783 mon of legal ago on our city assessor's book and wo have 000 men of legal ago in the bounds of tho two precincts. Tho complaint about tho writing of tho clerk in tho Lako precinct is likewise untenable Tho appointed tho commissioners clerk and insistod on having tho ono who did sorvo, although thoy woro besought to appoint a man who could write moro rapidly. Tho fourth and last complaint of this romarkablo lottor assorts that the county clork had furnished moro ballots to tho "Prove itl". ristenon, N. J., Jfov. 23. This fact should nttath peculiar interest nnd importance to this fenst. S. Tho Lord's supper is a memorial. "This do in remombrnnco of Me," said Christ. It is not only a memorial of Christ, but a memorial of that crowning net hi His life by which tho world was redeemed from sin tho death of Christ. "As ofton ns ye cat this bread and drink tliis enp yo do show tho Lord's denth till Ho come." Tho necessity of such a memorial is duo to tho fact that tho humnn heart is so prone to forget. Wo forgot even our greatest benefactors with nmazlug case. What n blessed thing it is, therefore, that Jesus instituted tills ordinanco to keep us in constant remombrnnco at least of tho most stnpendous event in tho history of tho world Though wo forgot all elso of tho nges past, wo should Dover forget tho doath of Christ. 8. Tho Lord's supper is a symbol. Tho bread and wino nre not actually changed into tho body and blood of Christ Transubstantiatlon is superstition and absurdity. Tho elements ot tho communion aro bnt symbols. They are material types of spiritual attainments. Christ is spiritually received by faitli by thoso who partako of this ordinanco in nccordanco with Christ's appointment Tho Holy Spirit applies to our souls the blessings contained in this Christian festival. And thus alone can wo bo blessed in partaking of thoso sacred emblems. There is nothing efficacious in the elements or in him who administers them, but when properly received tho Holy Spirit blesses them to tho good of our souls. 4. Tho Lord's supper is a command. "This do," said Christ, Ho left no alternative. It is as direct n command as can bo found in tho word of Qod. Tho indifforenco of multitudes to it who profess to believo in Christ is inexplaln-able- . For tbe Sake of Freaclilnic, Ministers often preach for the sake of preaching, not for tho purposo of being heard. God's voice was mistaken for thunder.
