gates 0 Jernsa lem I Ho describes the city of Jerusa lem and bursts into prayer for her peace and prosperity This pealm and its tar rounding suggest tbat1 We should be devoted to our own church What devotion for Jerusalem and the temple possessed the heart of the poet who wrote this jvmlml He loved Jerusalem he looked upon the holy city bo adtflred her stateliness and beauty he rejoiced In tbe scenes of her early grandeur end his heart swelled with pride as be recalled the fact tbat Jerusalem bad been the gath ering place of the tribes cf Israel tbat here they had given testimony unto the greatness and should joy in that also A spirit of loyal true hearted devotion to the church will put us in the proper fratno of mind to do all wo can for her best Interests and advancement 2 We should house and considered It a pleasure and not an Irksome task to attend them Would that this spirit prevailed more In the hearts of tho church people of today I Not only would tbe house of God be more often frequented but from its in spiring services influences would go forth that would quicken into new life and vigor all forms of church work It Is just as possible for na to find joy In Gods house Henderson bridge case but the facts doat bear them out because they went ahead and assessed miscellaneous corporations but at a very low raw The Democratic state board does not bear out the explanation of the com pliers either as witness the following affidavit from oxAudItor Norman who was chairman of the Democratic board which was filed by the U ft N railroad to prevent the Republican board from going back and reassessing that toad for franchise tax for the years 1892 13 94 and 96 Here Is Mr Normans affidavit which knocks the bottom out of the Democratic campaign books explanation the railroads fpr franchise taxes was aRt because they were waiting OB the court of appeals but because after full coot deration and mature deliberation and full Investigation said board of Valuation and assessment ascertained and determined that the railroad COM mlsaloner badasscsacd all ot the tax able property Including franchisee of the several railroads In the state Mr Normans sworn statement II better authority than the statement of the compilers of the Democratic hand book on a matter especially within his knowledge and his statement leaves their explanation without a shred of fact to put upon It was wrong The compilers of the Democratic campaign handbook ought to have consulted Mr Norman before undertaking to explain his as tlon and they would have escaped this exposure of their ignorance or dlslo genuousness In this connection it Is well enough to note that the small reduction In the valuation of railroad property for 88 Bcasment by the present board of rail road commissioners after the first 7car of their service is due to the fact that tho court of appeals has decided that certain bridge property previously le eluded In the railroad aaaesameaU was properly
