To be plainer about the matter, it will be a colossal blunder to hold any more such county conventions as was held in Marion county on Saturday last. A few more scuh exhibitions of intolerance by presiding officers and of outside interference in county politics as happened at Lebanon will render Republican defeat at the polls next November certain enough to satisfy the most vindictive Democrat in Kentucky. The Commercial does not pretend to say which side may have been at fault in the convention referred to. It does not pretend to say which set of the delegates chosen is entitled to seats in the State Convention; but it does not hesitate to declare that the Republicans of Marion county are at fault in permitting the canvass to get into a shape of which Saturday's disagreement was probably the logical outcome. It seems clear that to a certain extent they permitted external influences to disrupt them, and for this they can not escape responsibility. It was their duty, as it is the duty of Republicans in every county in the State, to notify the reckless partisans of all the candidates for the gubernatorial nomination who come prancing into their territory from the outside that no foreign assistance is needed in the conduct of their conventions. It was also their duty to repress within their own ranks all such extravagance of protest as was likely to result in such a split as finally occurred and as now puts upon the State Convention a delicate responsibility with which it should not have been burdened. Republicans generally will hope that the Marion County Republican Convention is to be the last of its kind. n Tbe report is in circulation that sometime ago tbe colored miners in a neighboring county were taken into full fellowship with the whiles when tbe U. On the Shores of Loch nary. A jolly picnic party visited our park Monday evening and the writer had the pleasure of being one of them. The party arrived about 6:15 and drove immediately to the lake, where they broke up in happy little groups in the numerous seats there for the accommodation of visitors. The sunset over Loch Mary was beautiful. A delightful spread, by far the most important part ot any picnic, was greatly enjoyed, and no wonder, for each girl surely tried her-seby preparing the most delicious things she knew of. There was some good music and many lovers of the art enjoyed dancing for awhile. Those who composed the delightful party were: Misses Suell, Harp and Nutter, Lexington; Grant, Hopkinsville;! There is only one way to cure deafness, and that is by constitutional remedies. Deafntss is caused by an infilamed condition of the mucous lining of the Eustachian Tube. When this tube gets inflamed you have a rumbling sound or imperfect hearing, and when it is entirely closed deafness is the result, and unless the inflammation can be taken out and this tube restored to its normal condition, hearing will be destroyed forever; nine cases out of ,en aro caused by catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed condition of the mucous surfaces. INCORPORATED. : .at Gnl. II, 2 Published In vwflYYMWttWWMVAttW The following letter, written by Rev. John M. Crowr, was published last week in the Central Methodist at Louisville. Quite a number of Earlington people have been listening for this letter ever since Mr. Crowe was here and The Bee republishes it for their pleasure and because it contains so many good things well said about our town and townspeople. My itinerant tours among the churches furnish a varied arena observation and for thoughtful For three pleasant reflections. weeks I have been among the noble miners of this modern city modern in all the elements and institutions that beautify social life and glorify commercial, industrial enterprise. Not an idle man has been seen walking these streets by day or by night. The law of thrift insures a state of rest and reward, and contentment smiles on happy homes. Nearly three thousand souls dwell here as cultured, refined, sober, industrious folk as can be found anywhere. The St. Bernard Coal Company reigns supreme in all the activities of the people, and the company merits the confidence and devotion they have won by generous considerations, liberal provisions and equitable compensations for those who toil to bring the black diamond to the surface of the earth and service of man. Electric lights sparkle like brilliants on the brows and bosoms of the hills and solid pavements on every street lead the wearied feet of the working force to their haOur vens of coveted repose. "brother in black" shares with his white brother in the impartial benefactions of the company. Two libraries are open daily for the races and are vyell supplied with choice literature.
