story which comes from Pontiac Mich t the home of his sisters It is one of Tom Sharkeys boasts that he suffered a fistic defeat at the hands of Father Raineyand of which he is proud Sharkey was a sailor on the Olympia and one day while enjoy companionj the fight was called off Dont stop on my account said Father Rainey I enjoy that kind of sport and I guess Tom I you will have to put the gloves on dayA It time was called for the two in the mess room When they put up their hands there was a look of sadness on the sailors face as he made a little punch at tile chaplains breast and when ho was countered on the noso Tom laughed The sympa thetic look then vanished Sharkey made another jab winch was neatly stopped and a punch on the ear put him on his mettle Tom lunged struck right and left tried all the tactics he had used on his mates but to no effect Father Rainey was too clever He would meet the sailors rushes with a stinging punch on the nose or short ribs until when time was called Sharkey acknowledged his defeat Hnvlnga Great Run on Chamber lains Cough Remedy Manager Martin of the Pierson drug tore Informs us that be Is having a great run on Chamberlains Cough Remedy Ha longest and most elaborate of all the psalms It is an alphabetical psalm having a stanza composed of eight versos for each of the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet Each verse oon lists of two numbers only each of which begins with the Game letter of tim alphabet The subject of the psalm It law of God and it is practically an expansion of tho Nineteenth Psalm Tho author is unknown Tho topic suggests tho idea that life in a Journey a going either toward God or from God The psalmist in the topic l reference declares that ho is going God directed by His law and testimonies If we want to travel in the ame direction the word of God is onr only true guide Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path to The only way to go Gods way is to fol low His law What wo might call the teps in this way are painted out in the topical reference I Tbo flret step is consideration and to go Gods way as pointed out by His law verse 57 I have said that I would keep Thy words It This decision shows that thero has been due consideration of the question The salmist has doubtless earnestly consid rod the matter as to which is the better way to go with tho law of God or against it and has wisely concluded at ho will keep Gods vord This is tho first stop toward traveling with God Wo must elejcido to do so and aft r due consideration who can fall to ome to tho some conclusion Personal duty destiny demand obedi nco to Gods Jaw If men considered he matter more thoroughly and earnest moro would decide to goGode wily Thoughtlessness Is largely the cause of odlessness If we thought moro upon ur wuyn we would more readily turn ur feet unto Gods testimonies 2 Tho second step Is the study of ods Jaw Tim law of God must be studied and known to be practiced If wo were blind no light could guide UK requiresknowledge wIne to us Wo shonld study it prayer ully systematically earnestly and con- tonily Then we are in position to fol ow tho direction it points us 8 Tho third stop is the practice of Gods law I thought on my ways and turned my feet unto Thy testimonies I made haste and delayed not to keep Thy commandments Consideration doe lon and study nro valueless without anion without practice Tho prodigal son thought decided and acted He said I will ariso and go to my father tI and ho also arose and went It Practice alone will make our decisions effective Two incidental characteristics of one traveling Gods way aro thanksgiving nd association with those of the same of life At midnight I will rise and glvo thanks to Thee because f Thy righteous judgments I
