A Beautiful Present ' , Madisonville. (Communicated September 30 ) The buying people of Madisonville, and in fact Hopkins and adjoining countios never have had such opportunities this fall by the dry goods houses of Madisonville, never in the world. There is J. T. Alexander, one of the largest, most enterprising and most successful dry goods men the town has ever known, turning his entire stock of well bought general merchandise loose at and below cost, and then our friend William Lynch, of Dawson, with his and ready cash has bought the bankrupt stock recently wide-awakenc- as aro offered sold at public auction, invoicing about fo.ooo for $5,7- - And besides these two uncommon opportunities Bishop & Co. arc loaded to the guards with the very choicest bran new merchandise to be had in the country. In his great stock of new cloth-jqhe says he can fit or please any g "cy ,f -- ' man or hoy, and his prices shall not be in the way. And in his shoe department he claims pre eminence. He says prices were never lower on shoes and his stock is chuck full of the best styles and values he has ever owned, and then when he came to dress goods and tfimmings and dry goods generally, tho writer is bound to admit Mr. Bishop grew a little egotisti cal, and for once the qmct cautious Bud Bishop became excited and loquacious. "Why,1' said he, "1 can't say enough about this department, a9 you know I have never acknowledged a rival in this line, and today it stands higher in my estimation than ever before. Our entire stock has been bought by old and experienced buyers who have been at perfect liberty to buy what the stocjt needed,, and I nust say have picked plums from the best markets the country affords. "But notwithstanding tho confidence I feel in the correctness of our purchases, and the extreme low prices paid for same, recent devel opments compel me to say we in1898 tend forcing sales. OTTO'S THE GREAT Y FAIR Spruce Bum S ALSAM CURES YOUR COUGH IN A DAY. 25 YT ? i & rlght n, At Henderson Next Week The Largest Fair in the State. The Great Fair commences next Tuesday at Henderson. It is admitted on all sides that this will be the largest Fair in the State. The race purses are larger by (ar than those offered by any other Fair in the State. Five thousand dollars has been set aside to make a programme of this sport. Over 250 entries have been received and many more will enter before the entries close next Saturday. Two thousand dollars has been spent for attractions, such as Happy Jack, the world's famous lone pacer, the original and only horse that paces fast miles without rider, driver or sulky, in the phenomenal time of 2.09 for a mile. Speedy, the world's famous high diver, who has attracted large crowds everywhere by his daring dives, and last but not least the Famous Western Star Band of Louisville, under the leadership of Eichhorn, conceded by all to be the greatest bandmaster south of the Ohio. This band is the three times winner of the Indiana and Kentucky band This band was setournament. lected out of nineteen contestants, it being the highest priqed band bidding, but the committee decided not to spare expense to give the people good music. Big premiums arc given for agricultural products; in fact this management is treating the farming clement more liberally than any other association in this section of the country. The price of admission has been reduced to 25 and 15 cents, and on the first day, one ol the largest days of the Fair, children under nine will be admitted free. The railroads will have extra coaches to accommodate the crowds that will attend from along the lines. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday have been designated Webster and Hopkins county days. The train will leave on regular time and will be held in Henderson until 6 p. m. To sum it up, it will be a great fair, with great crowds, and a good entertainment for those who do attend.
