Some Indication of Their Bellg-erent ricn and Munitions of War En' route to Chickamauga. -- By Ladies of W. C. T. U. at Mad- Spirits. There were three of the colored soldiers of the Twenty fifth Infantry, which passed through Earlington last Thursday morning, who formerly worked in the coal mines at this place. Quite a number of people both white and colored were at the station to sec the troops go through and these men were seen and seemed with all the rest to be jubilant over their trip to the South, after years of service among the Indians on the Northwestern frontier, and the prospect for action against the Spanish. In the event of hostilities these colored soldiers will most likely be the first on the field. Two companies of them were rushed at once to Key West and the rest went into camp at Chickamauga Park. One of them, who had been an Earlington miner, said he "used to shoot coal and he reckoned he could shoot Spaniards." They seemed to have fight in them and were well equipped for battle. At Nashville a restaurant keeper said to some oi them "What are they sending you fellows south for, you can't fight." A colored soldier replied, "Well, I'll just show you about that" and he hit him so hard that he 'lost all interest in surroundings' and had not recovered when1 the military train left the citv. the Earlington Christian Church, will occupy the pulpit of the Christian Church at Owensboro next Sunday. Considerable activity has been manifested of late in manufactured tobacco in anticipation of an increase of tax in the event of war. It is thought that the additional tax will be about six cents a pound. Earlington merchants were buying the dark plug fast and furious early this week. At a meeting of Zadok Lodge No. 30, F. & A. He was made a Mason in 1891 and lived a consistent member in our lodge until bis death. He was in his 53d ye r of bis age when called from this lodge to that celestial lodge above. He was a good citizen and a devout Christian; always lending a helping hand to the poor and Indigent, having a cheerful word for all, gentle in manner, zealous in the virtues of masonry and judging with firmness in all avocations. He leaves a wife and relatives and many warm friends, to whom these resolutions are tendered; Resolved, That in the death of our beloved brother this lodge has lost a worthy and useful member, the community a good citizen and his wife a loviog husband, that we as Masons tender his bereaved wife and friends our heartfelt sympathy and pray for them that consolation which God alone can give; and Resolved, That we will wear the badge of mourning for thirty days; that a copy of these resolutions be recorded in the lodge journal, and a copy sent to Tub Bee for 1110s. All nations aro to bo led to Christ, and tho only way by which this can bo dono is for tho disciples of Christ to go as missionaries nnd tell all men tho story of Jesus and His love. This has been done from tho earliest days of Christianity. This thirteenth chapter of tho Acts of tho Apostles tells tho story of tho origin and beginning of tho first great missionary movement under tbo Holy Ghost and Paul, by which tho Roman empiro was to bo led to Christ. Paul was tho greatest of tho early followers of Christ. Ho consecrated his life to missions. Many of Christianity's great men havo dono tho samo thing since. From their lives wo may learn useful aud important lessons as to what is necessary to successfully carry forward God's work, whether at homo or abroad. 1. From great missionaries wo may learn to submit ourselves to God. This is charactcristio of all great missionaries. They submittod themselves entirely to God. Thoy wero guided by tbo Holy Ghost. In tho origin of Christian missions tho Holy Ghost aid to tho church nt Antioch, "Scparato Mo Barnabas nnd Saul for tho work wherounto I havo called them." Tho church submitted. Barnabas and Saul submitted. After fasting nnd prayer and tho laying on of hands Barnabas and Sanl wrro sent away. Af tor listening to a missionary address when a young man in England Robert Moffat, tho great missionary, went homo to his room and prayed that if it wero God's will he would send him forth to preach tho gospel to tho heathen. Ho found it was God's will and gladly went forth. En tiro surrender to God is n necessary prcreqnisito to successful work for God. 2. From great missionaries wo may learn to ho willing to labor in now nnd uncultivated Holds. Barnabas and Saul carried tho gospel whero it had not been before Panl afterward declared that ho built npon no other man's foundation. It is recorded in tho life of Livingstone that early ho showed "n fixed determination not to labor in moro accessible Holds, but to striko ont To striko ont boyond requires courago, self sacrifice, willingness to do hard work, hut it pays in tho end, and wo should bo willing to do it. In his first striking out into tho inland ot Africa Robort Moffat lived for sis months alono in n rudo hut. "In this lint," says tho historian, "ho remained, exposed to tho sun, rain, dogs, snakes nnd cattlo, doing his own cowing and cooking and often having nothing to cook, consoling himself with his violin nnd Scotch psalms, but with nil his regular day hardships maintaining schools nnd preaching services." Aud God blossed his arduous, solf sacrificing toil. Sod will bless us if wo nro willing to do tho hardest work for Christ. Biblo Readings.
