It required only a snort stay at Central Cily to convince President Knight that the men there were satisfied and that while getting good wages and prompt piymcnt they did not intend to throw down tbe shovel and pick and go out on a strike. The Sebree Coal Company loaded their first railroad car of coal last week, but it seems that they are too late to reap any harvest on account of tbe miners' strike in the North and Etst. Mr. Riley Ooyal, who for many jears past has mined coal for the Ilccta and St. Bernard Coal Companies, has moved to Sebree, where be goes to take charge as foreman of the Sebree mine. Tbe mineral display of the St. Bernard Coal Company at tbe Hopkins County Fair this week will be under tbe supervision of Col. Albert Toombs, who will be ready at all times to explain and show tbe knowledge seekers where tbe gold can be seen in tbe quartz. At this time last year thousands of men were on the stump speaking in favor of free silver at tbe ratio of 16 to 1, and telling the silver meant low farmer that priced wheat and that tbe two products went hand in band together. Dut what a change has come over the situation! Wheat worth onedollar per bushel and silver down to forty cents. Our miners throughout the State remember these statements, and can now turn tbe laugh on their free silver friends, although the latter make the claim that it is tbe speculators who have run the price up for political purposes, that in the face of the fact that tbe foreign supply is several million bushels short. The coal miners of this county hold the balance of power in elections, and can therefore, if united, see that none but the best of men be elected to fill the various county offices, Anderson & Holloman who, only a few weeks before tbesttikc.leascd the Monarch coal mines have been lucky, indeed, and secured some nice profits from their recent sales. Tbe Monarch Company bad a slight breik down last Friday, causing them to shut down for a short time. Weigher Edwin Phillips feels very much complimented by tbe tellers he has re ceived of late from State officials and others who showed their sympathy for him in his Assist failure to secure the appoiotment-oant Mine Inspector, by speaking words of condolence and assuring him of their sin cere regrets, frrom what tbey wrote it seems that the Governor came to the con elusion that another part of the State was entitled to tho place. From all appearances the backbone of tbe strike is broken, and about the only thing the agitator can point to is the loss in wages of tens of thousands of dollars. It now remains to be seen whether or not tbe mine operators in Hopkins county who restored tbe wages of their employes to that of the standard wages, during the strike, will continue to pay them, or will they, in order to rush cheap coal on tbe market, again cut tbe miners' wages? They had regular quarters at Price's College Hotel, and their blue badges, bearing the words "L. & N., Louisville," were seen all over the grounds. There was a special display of fireworks, Saturday night in their honor, and included a set piece which displayed the words "Welcome, L. & N. Shopmen." But it remains for the shopmen of the Henderson and St. Louis divisions to tret a new pace and celebrate in a most becoming manner the next "L. & N. Wc have all heard much of the fame and excellence of that band of forty pieces and now there comes an opportunity to hear the sound not so far off. A demonstration will be made at Nashville. The party will get off at College street, march up College to Church and out Church to the Union Depot, where a special train furnished by President Thomas of the N. & C. will be in readiness to convey the people to the grounds. There will be twelve or fourteen hundred men in the parade and the day will be one of the memorable days at the exposition. Tlio expression clearly means tho actual of Christ in the heart of tho believer in tho person of tlio Holy Ghost. Wo havo also usctl hero tho expression tho "Spirit of God." This is identical with tho "Spirit of Christ." Both expressions aro identical, and both designato tho Holy Ghost, tho adorn-bi- o third person of tho Trinity. There, is no impropriety in interchanging theso expressions. They nro tho thrco persons of tho satno Godhead, and whero tlio Father is there the Son is, and whero tho Sou is thero tho Holy Ghost is. .Tho Spirit of God is everywhere yet Ho is said to dwell wherever Ho specially manifests Hinisclf. Ho dwells in heaven. Ho tiscd to dwell lu the temple. Ho uow dwells iu tho church nnd in each individual bcliover whoso body is a templo of tho Holy Ghost. ' Whether tho Spirit of Christ dwells iu us or not is n very important question. Upon tho answer to this question depends tho validity of our claim to Christianity. It is tho supremo tcsfof truo and gcunino disciplcship. "If nuy man havo not tho Spirit of Christ, ho is nonq of His." How may we know whether wo havo tho Spirit of Christ? Tho first test is tho character of lifo that is iu us. If Cnrisfbe in us, wo aro spiritually minded nnd our lives aro characterized by deep spirituality. If Christ bo not in us, wo lovo and worship tho world and tho things of tho world. "If Christ bo iu you, tho body is dead of sin, but tho Spirit is lifo of righteousness." Our inward nnd outward lives will tell uh very readily whether or not Christ dwells iu us. A fcccoml test of Iho indwelling of Christ is fruitbearing. If Christ is iu uh, wo will bring forth fruit to tho honor nnd glory of God. "Ho thnt nbitleth in Me," says Christ, "and I in him, tho Knmo bringcth forth much fruit." And again, "Herein is my Father glorified that Ho bear much fruit. So shall yo bo My disciples. " And nguin, "By their fruits sliull yo know them." By our lives nnd by our fruit wo cannot but tell if Christ dwell in us. If not both by faith and prayer, wo should seek for tho outpouring ot tho Spirit upon us. Wo should clenuso ourselves from nil siu, empty tho heart aud lifo of self nnd tho world, eo that Christ can como iu mid dwell with us, and if Ho dwell with us here, wo snail dwoll with Him hereafter. "Behold I stand nt tho door and knock, nnd if nuy 1111111 will hear My voico and open unto Mo I will como iu and sup with him nud ho with Mo." Ixi, Biblo Headings. Another clement in favor of higher prices is also the superior quality of the winter wheat, which in most states runs as high as 63 and 65 pounds to the bushel, and therefore will tempt foreigners to pay more. The chances then are good that the farmer will continue to get a fair return for every sack he sells though he may not get more or quitcas much as paid this week. Dollar wheat is not of so much importance in itself, but it means a vast deal when its influence upon otlitr prices is considered. Corn has to follow in its wake, and as this is the greatest crop from our fields the effect of better prices for it can be readily imagined. We arc carrying millions of bushels of the old crop in addition to the flocks and herds which are falcned on it exclusively. All other farm products must be advanced In this sense it may likewise. truly be said that wheat is the gento whose standard eral all other staples arc compelled to conform In fact a sort of superstitious reverence is attached to it everywhere in the world.
