The Methodist school was repre sented by about sixty-fiv- e teachers and scholars. Mr. J. A. Powell is superintendent of this school. About fifty were here from tho Christian Sunday School, Mr. J W. Springfield, superintendent The Genera) Baptist School, Mr. W. T. Moore, superintendent, sent persons. About about thirty-fiv- e eighty was the number that came from the Missionary Baptist scuooi Besides these there were a number of others caine who did not to any Sunday school, so that the total number was no less lha three hundred, A gentleman of the party said to The Bee reporter that he had counted tho crowd while in tho coaches and that 'the number would not miss three hundred by five cither way. And they came with provisions enough to feed themselves .ind many more. The day wag perfect. A splendid breeze stirred the shady boughs of Lakeside 'Park and rippled the clear waters bf Lock Mary all daylong. Hammock parties two at a time were very popular and numerous and the row boats did hot go begging. It was a general good time this happy party had. The Scbree Cornet Band was along and put life into the picnic and the people with its inspiring strains of music. Ana then the day was not nearly so hard on them as was the 3d of July when they marched over town in the broiling sun and worked hard all day, all of which resulted in overheating and sickness for several of their number. The St. Bernard Coal Company made the picknickers a present of a wagon load of watermelons which were much appreciated, livery- body seemed to have a good time and to go home in a gocd humor. The Bee extends a hearty invita tion to the good people of Scbree to repeat this pleasant visit and assures them of a hearty welcome at all times. he-lon- J? Investigation disclosed the fact that two of the sons of Wes Cody, and some claim others were with them, had gone to the house where the festival was being held, nrmed with shotguns and revolvers, and opened fire on the party there assembled; that those ol the colored men who were armed returned the fire until their ammunition was exhausttd and then fled for their live. Three shot, none of them seriovsly, but their ability to dodge was the only thing that saved them. The sfory of the beginning ol the affair goes like this. A negro boy known as "Crossy," nephew anil some of Marshal Hatcher, others wen: on their way lo llecla about dusk when they were ac costcd at a bridge near there by the Cody boys who played drunk and pretended to be armed, ordering 'Crossy" to throw up his hands, and staggering about in his way prevented him passing. "Ctossy" hit one of the boys with a stick, this precipitated n fight and "Crossy" ran away. One of the while boys lost his hat in the fracas and it is claimed that "Crossy" look it with him when he ran. The Cody boys 'were then craving venganco and their visit lo the festival was for" the purpose of hat or blood. It is said that they went to Wright's house three times, armed with shotgun, revolver and Winchester, and the third time they ordered Hicks Collier to thrown up his hands and after some words opened fire. ball Collier received a in his leg and part contents of a Chas. Fitzpatrick shotgun load. ball in his received a right arm and squirrel shot in the back. He was shot four times. Anthony Wright's wife was shot in the shoulder. Her wounds were from the shotgun also, only a few shot entering, but the bleeding was profuse. Ihc boys who did the shooting kept themselves in the dark and fired through the doors and windows when anybody showed themselves. One of them owns a re- a get-that er Do You Use It? Religion and the daily tasks of lifo nro not incongruous, they aro not antagonistic. Religion is needed in tho daily lifo. It is not something that is specially for tho human soul on tho Sabbath day, hut truo religion feeds Bonl, mind and hotly for the six dnys of the week. Tho Christian who has not learned to carry his religion into his lifo work has failed to pcrceivo ono of tho chief joys nnd values of Christianity. Most of our tirao is ppent in tho daily v ork of llfo. Host of our energy is expeuded here, and if wo die? not need our religion in that which takes tho most of our timo and tho best of our strcugth wo tuny well ask, when would wo need it? Most of tho temptntions, trials, difficulties and hardships of lifo aro met in tho daily tasks of lifo, and what need, therefore, thnt wo havo God und onr religious faith to support us? Christianity is n practical religion. It is suitablo to tho needs and wants of tho daily life. God not only supplies ns with tlio needs and wants of tho higher lifo, bnt nlso of tho lower life. Wo need God in tho shop, tho factory, tho efOco and tho storo just as much as wo uccd God iu tho worship of tlio Sabbath day, tho prayer meeting or tho Christian Endeavor fccrviccs. And God is willing nnd ublo to gnido nnd direct us in theso things ns in tho higher nnd moro important things of life. Gpd gavo skill nnd wisdom to tlio builders of tho tabernacle. Ho is still nblo nnd willing to givo skill nnd wisdom to His peoplo iu the work of life. Wo often forget God in our dally tanks. Wo fail to ask His guidance nnd direction and help for our daily labors. If tlio eoul is perplexed or disturbed, wo flco to God, but neglect often to do ho when tho mind cannot solvo a problem iu tho daily work beforo it, or tho body is unequal to tho daily task. The Bain Wagon Factory, one of the largest establishments of this place, is running thirteen hours a day, while all of the factories arc making full time.
