the Trained horse One very attractive feature of the Centennial is the trained horse Jim Key He is exhibited by his owner Dr Bill Key in the Negro building The history of Dr Key is very interesting He belonged to a well known family who lost everything during the late war Then he set his wits to work as well as his muscle and made enough money to redeem the homestead which he gave back to his extra session of the legislature of Kentucky causes a feeling of thankfulness to take possession of the minds of her citizens The Republicans can count as a gain the election of a Us S Senator the enactment of needed finan ci legislation the convictmined coal bill and those authorizing improvements in the sewage system of the asylums But the failure ot the House to pass a good bill to suppress mob violence and the smallness of the vote by which it passed the Senate substitute for the mild creation of the lower chamber does not reflect credit on the party The sound money members of the Senate did not attempt to get together and work in harmony until too late to accomplish anything If at the beginning of the they had reorganized elected new officers and made new rules they would have been in a position to place the General Assembly on a busi ness basis and carry out the needed legislation in thirty days and ad journ This would have given the State the necessary relief and saved thirty thousand dollars In stead of that they trusted to the sense of justice and love of fair play oi the free silver minority who toyed with them till their hands were tied and then proceeded to
