1904 We are informed that the Committee of the National Baptist Con vention appointed in Austin at their last annual session to consider the propriety of co operating with the Southern Baptist Convention ac cording to the plan adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention tad a meeting and alter considerable disagreement broke up in a row The Baptist Sentinel- It is a mystery how any such report of the sessions of this Commission or the subcommittee could have been given out for it is just as far from the real facts as it could be We have attended every session ol the Commission and of the subcommittee and they have been off the most orderly serious and digni fled character and from present in dications they will be perfectly bar ttotbouJihout and an micabl adjustment of the entire question reached Certainly up to this time the meetings could not have been more in concord and deliberations more peaceful THE reversal of the Scott Cir cuit Court for the third time by the Court of Appeals in the case oi Caleb Powers ought to be convin cing evidence that he has not had a lair and impartial trial and in hi fourth trial if the rule laid down in the opinion of the Court is followed the verdict will be different JJudge Barker who prepared the opinion oif the Court also submitted an indi vidual opinion in which he contends that a Federal question is involved and that the manner of selecting the juries which have tried Powers has been in violation of the Four Amendment This opinion iis concurred in by two other judges oif the Court and has been warmly approved by many of the leadin lawyers The changed conditions iin the state and the lessening of polit ical passion and bitterness will no doubt secure for him this time such a trial as the law guarantees THE Quarto Centennial of State University was a great succes every way except in the financial results and in that tmos of our brethren concluded that every one else would do their Part and that the little they would do would not be missed But in this they were mistaken and two failed to send an offering for the educational work The students as usual did splendidly but the churches Sunday School s and others did practically nothing Dr Purce has purposely deferred publishing the financial report iin order that all may be included w the report Besides this the money was never more needed than now and all concerned as earnestly are urged to send in their contributions at once so that the amount raised maybe commeniutted with our de nomination and the needs of th institution THBRBraayvbea good deal ot label on your pa per and it will advise you THE Executive Board of the General Association has determined for the present Associational year to push the appointment plan for raising money for State Missions with renewed energy This is a just and equitable plan and every church should be willing to adopt it and in this way provide the money nec s sary to conduct State Mission work in Kentucky In
