doctrine as Baptists only accept such doctrine as the scripture teaches The phrase perseverance in its primacy mevuing sigtfies a oontinuauee in any design or course of actions The logl oath it Is a terms listen Belng confident or this very thing Of what is he confident That loBe which hath begun a good work in will perform it until the day of bout Christ The begsnninfc of this good work In us in this stats and is absolutelyl untrue afar as the instnuation is meant to apply to him It is a su prise that the Torch Light usually fair just and truthful should reso l to this old method of mtsreprese tition surmising and impuguing ofr the motives of his brethren in order to gratify his spleen and opposition The Educational work fs fostered by the General Association as well as the Missionary workand will be properly cared for as it may deserv and as the Association has the means Some associations have passed resolutions disapproving off the New Womens Missionary Convention but in no case has it been done at the suggestion or solicita A c tion of any representative of the Educational work but iis rather the y outgrowth of the very strong hostil1 ity in the state toward the new movement and of this the editor f the Torah Light is better J than he pretends to be informedI I MOB violence whether in Alabama or in Delaware is wrong and the character of the crime or the color the crimes committed by white criminals and are no more able toi t c4 prevent them The better class of 1colored people do separate them selves from the criminal class and have no means for protecting create a strong and vigorous sentinrent in every community in ffavor of law and order The suggestion to have all money collected at or sent to the district Associations and Conventions for j state work be sent to the General Association instead of being paid to the representatives of these enter goodtiaith but such a change is unwise and would work to the injury of the very enterprise which it is intended to help The only good to be ac complish would be the enlargement ot the contributions to the General Associations but would not add one cent to the support of the Educational or Missionary work and per haps in the change both enterprises would be denied the immediate 1use of the money collected which in some cases where these bodies meet after the meeting of the General Association would be material1 as in other cases the money would be held in the hands of treasm iicS or corresponding messengers for near ly a year This money would uot help these bodies any as they could not use it and then the records off the Boards would not show a cent received from these bodies for the educational or missionary work as the General Association would be credited with the paympnt in the aggregate with this money The logical result of this change would be that churches would follow the example of the associations and re tain the money raisec for Educational and Missionarv work untill1 the General Association and in this way the idea of sending all moneyr to that body would be encouraged I and there would be no money re Misrsionary work during the year rtHowever promonters of this movement may be it iis very evident that the Missionary and Educational work would suffer if tne plan should be adopted and since nothing is to be gained th plan should be abandoned WEDDING BELLS Last service justbefore the time I set for the burning of the mortgage on said building It was indeed a pleasure to witness the joy on the faces of the care worn self sacri ficing and church loving members and friends In the beginning of third years pastorate of the Rev W C Allen the church was completed at a cost of SIQOO It was a great day the fourth Sunday in June 1899 when the con gregation took possession of the new brick house and raised 425 with what we had in hands we cut the debt half in two We have taken time and in three years paid all but 11109 so the pastor an nounced In may that we would ral ly the third Sunday in June and pay off the last note then burn the mortgage The members friends rallied nobly the members were asked to give one dollar each and all that have been any account to the church these six years gave the dollar or as much as they could memI shirking all that is honorable to a church member for four years some that must have uptodate closhes to wear to church but nev have had as much as twentyjve cents to give to the church Rev D Kucas of Bowling Green did the preaching and it was well done he preached the three power ful logical and soul stirring
