This collection consists of ledgers, receipts, lists of memebers, and miscellaneous notes concerning the Charles Sumner Lodge, No. 1780 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. The ledgers are "Promise-to-Pay" pledges made by the members of the order. A separate ledger contains a list of members and notes taken during meetings. Additionally, there are scraps of paper making references to members who had fallen on hard times or suffered a loss in the family. The Charles Sumner Lodge was an African-American fraternal organization of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. The lodge was located in Lancaster, Garrard County, Kentucky. Some members lived in Hyattsville, also in Garrard County. Arrangement: Correspondence is arranged chronologically, maintaining original order.
