Two letters written by William Hardy of Frankfort, Kentucky, to Patrick U. Major (also of Frankfort), during the Mexican War. The first letter written from Camp Oakland on June 26, 1846, describes military travel by boat and camp life. Ration, ordinance, discipline, and sickness problems were also dealt with. Hardy asked Major to distribute "minitures" of himself to his friends. Letter two, written from Camp Saltillo, Mexico, on January 23, 1847, describes recent battles, the country side around Monterey, military policies, and illnesses among the troops.
