The letters of Mrs. Long, who was a high school math teacher in Lexington, Kentucky, provide useful insights into social attitudes and everyday life in Lexington during World War II and into the service life of the young men to whom she wrote. The collection spans a period from 1902 to 1985 but the majority of materials date between 1920 and 1960. Also provided is information about Lafayette High School sports and activities from 1939 to 1960 and the University of Kentuckysports and events in the 1930's. Also included are several 78 rpm phonograph records of Hawaii-themed songs collected by Tommie Bronston while she participated in an exchange program in Hawaii.
