[Identification of item], Kentucky Militia Papers, 1786-1864, 90M05,Library Special Collections and Archives, Kentucky Historical Society, Frankfort. This collection contains militia returns, certificates for military service and goods impressed, legal documents, muster rolls, and other documents relating to the Kentucky Militia. Annual returns for many regiments are included (see attached list), as well as delinquent returns noting the absence of men who had been called for service. Three folders of small certificates issued to individuals for military service or goods impressed in expeditions against the Wabash and Shawnee Indians in 1786 are also present, arranged alphabetically. These expeditions were commanded by General George Rogers Clark and Colonel Benjamin Logan. Other materials include muster rolls for Franklin County, Kentucky from 1861 to 1869. Among the miscellaneous papers are documents concerning appointments, nominations of officers, and enrollments. There are several documents submitted by officers objecting to the promotion of other officers, from the 1810s. Records concerning charges brought against and the court-martial of Captain Thomas S. Smith of the Ninth Regiment are also included. According to these records, Smith was cashiered from the militia.
