Salinger collection, 1941-1970, Special Collections, University of Louisville, Louisville. Literature The collection is a gift of pioneer Salinger bibliographer Donald M. Fiene. Fiene credits his intense interest in Salinger to the 1960 loss of his high school teaching job over a Catcher in the Rye assignment he gave to students. Fiene returned to graduate school and produced a bibliographical study of Salinger as his thesis in 1961. He subsequently collected all of Salinger's book and periodical appearances in print, in all languages, including Russian, Italian, Swedish, Korean, Spanish, Japanese, German, Polish, Czech, Norwegian, Dutch, Danish, Estonian, Serbo-Croatian, and an edition published in Republic of Georgia.
