Health Sciences This collection documents the medical career of well-known psychiatrist, Joel Elkes, M.D. He was a native of Germany, educated in England, and taught and practiced in the United States and Canada as a pioneer in the fields of neuropharmacology and psychobiology. His correspondence includes Jonas Salk and Eunice Shriver. He gained an international reputation by developing the field of neurobiology. He has established programs at Johns Hopkins and McMasters universities, and was one of the founders of the University of Louisville Genesis Center.
