[Identification of item], Fayette Barnum (1870-1960) collection, 1916-1945, Margaret M. Bridwell Art Library, University of Louisville, Louisville. Art and Architecture Fayette Barnum was an art educator, a teacher of design at the Handicraft Guild, a precursor to the Louisville Art Center, and director of the Louisville Art Center from 1929 to 1944. This collection consists of a 1945 University of Louisville senior thesis, A Documentary Record of Miss Barnum's Life and Contributions , which covers Ms. Barnum's life and a history of the Louisville Art Center, and includes photographs of Ms. Barnum and others in the Louisville art community. The appendices include: copies of some articles and transcriptions of others on Ms. Barnum and the Louisville Art Center; transcriptions of letters concerning Ms. Barnum and the Louisville Art Center; biographies of people mentioned in the thesis; catalogs from the Art Center; lists of members, officers and teachers at the Louisville Handicraft Guild; a list of talks given by Ms. Barnum; and works of art done by Art Center students for the Louisville community. The collection also contains an offprint of an article by Ms. Barnum, 'Art in a City Community, Louisville Kentucky,' Progressive Education , v. 16, 1939.
