Organizational history Founded in 1890 as the Jewish Young Men's Association, the organization united several Jewish groups. Distiller and philanthropist Isaac Wolfe Bernheim (see also Isaac Wolfe Bernheim papers) first called the group together; shortly afterwards the name was changed to the Young Men's Hebrew Association. In the mid-1950s the organization moved to the suburbs and changed its name to the Jewish Community Center. Included in the collection are issues of the illustrated monthly YMHA Chronicler from 1913 to 1926, which documents the local Jewish community during the 1910s and 1920s. Container List I 1. IV 16 Unidentified photograph (8'x10') This badly creased print shows three masked men shining flashlights on a woman, otherwise the photograph is relatively dark. As with the other record groups already described, I have done the same with the Jewish Community Center Records. For the listed photographs is recorded the size of the image, some sort of identification, and following the slash mark (/) is the photographer or studio when given. The majority of prints are portraits of either individuals or groups. There are some noteworthy photographs which have been starred. On the whole the images are straight-forward and nothing out of the ordinary.
