Loring Papers, ca. 1925-1933, 1M41, University Archives and Records Center, University of Louisville, Louisville. Ralph Alden Loring was born in Natick, Massachusetts on June 16, 1897. He received his B.S. degree from Dartmouth in 1920, his M.A. from Harvard in 1927, and his Ph.D. from Ohio State in 1932. He was appointed assistant professor of physics at the University of Louisville in 1934. In 1937, Dr. Loring was promoted to associate professor and head of the physics department. He became a full professor in 1943. Dr. Loring was the author of numerous published articles, held membership in several societies and fraternities, and was involved in work for the federal government.
