Lucille Derrick of Bellevue, Kentucky graduated from Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College in 1931. As a student she was a member of Sigma Lambda, YMCA, and the Eastern Progress Staff. Following graduation she served as secretary to Dr. W.C.. Jones, Director of Research at Eastern before going on to earn her Master of Arts degree in 1934 at George Peabody College for Teachers. For the next few years she taught mathematics at Eastern. In 1946 she earned a Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Chicago. She retired in 1973 as a professor of statistics from the University of Illinois, Chicago Circle. She was among the 101 Eastern graduates who received a Centennial Alumni Award in 1974. She currently lives in Chicago, Illinois. The Papers of Dr. Lucille Derrick, alumni and former faculty member, comprise .25 cubic feet. Although the collection is small, the warmth and vitality of the contributor is evident. These papers are divided into four series. These series are Board of Regents Minutes, Class Notebooks, Correspondence, and Memorabilia. Within each series dated material is arranged chronologically. Container List Board of Regents Minutes Series Minutes Series This series contains five items dated 1933 to 1935. Included are minutes of a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Regents, a copy of the minutes of the board of Regents, January 21, 1933, and three letters relating to these minutes. Weber, February 21, 1933 Class Notebooks Series The class Notebooks Series consists of three notebooks kept by Dr. Derrick for specific classes in which she was enrolled during the years 1924 to 1931. 1 Latin A, 1924 1 Public Speaking, 1928-29 1 Home Economics 101, 1931 Correspondence Series This series consists of business and friendly letters from members of the Eastern faculty written to Miss Derrick during the years 1941 to 1946. These letters are arranged chronologically with three undated items. 1 Correspondence. 1939-1946 Memorabilia Series The Memorabilia Series contains mementos of Dr. Derrick's years at Eastern including programs, an alumni journal, a dance program, and a copy of a photograph of Dr.Derrick as a recipient of one of the 101 alumni who received a centennial award from President Robert R. Martin.
