Page 3 Plan to Improve Gulfstream Park: Clubhouse to be Doubled in Size; to Install 'Island' Type Pari-Mutuel Windows Plan to Improve Gulfstream Park Clubhouse to Be Doubled In Size; To Install 'Island' Type Pari-Mutuel Windows HALLANDALE, Fla., May 10.— Gulfstream Park will double the size of its clubhouse and completely modernize the mammoth structure in a $750,000 improvement program, James Donn Sr., track president, has announced. Donn revealed that a 30,000-square-foot section will be added to the current clubhouse. The clubhouse stand previously erected, also 30,000 square feet, will be renovated to conform with the decor of the new wing. "Enlarging and modernizing our clubhouse is part of Gulfstream's plan to keep ahead of the growth of the area," Donn said. "We are following Gulfstream's record 1960 season by providing more comfort for our patrons by increased and improved facilities." The clubhouse addition, planned by architects Steward & Skinner of Miami, will expand all three floors. A new entrance arcade, featuring a concrete cantilever overhang to guard . against rain, will lead to a giant, plushly decorated lobby. Accommodations for 6,000 More Construction will begin in mid-May and late October is the completion date target. "Gulfstream comfortably will be able to to accommodate 6,000 additional people in the clubhouse area," Jimmy Donn Jr., Gulfstream executive vice-president stated. "We will have 100 new boxes available and this will do much to alleviate the shortage. "There will be complete freedom of movement, even at the mutuels windows. The entire clubhouse plan is based on comfort and convenience for the fans. Our new lobby will be lavishly decorated. We are going to make it unique among race tracks and comparable to the finest hotels. We are seeking the services of a topflight decorator to handle the project for us." "Island" pari-mutuels windows will be featured throughout. There will be no bottlenecks on any side of the rows of ticket sellers or cashiers. All windows will be bank type, set off in Japanese mosaic tile. Claims and Sales Claims and Sales AQUEDUCT Jill Ganey G. Ring 10,500 ASCOT PARK Plain Box Mrs. E. Kilroe's Experimental Handicap ratings with 120 pounds. The multiple stakes-winning altered son of Degage — Vital is owned-in partnership by Tinkham Veale II. and Mrs. D. J. Kennedy. The latter, who doubles as Vital Force's trainer, is renowned as the most prominent female conditioner of thoroughbreds in the sport. Another who will strive to regain his top form is John Zitnik's colorful "Cinderella" grass champion, Manassas, has been working out daily. Manassas, who dropped a heart-breaker to Round Table in last summer's $100,000 Arlington Handicap, will see action in most all of the combined meeting's grass stakes. Heads 12-Horse Stable Vital Force, one of 12 in the Kennedy -Veale stable already in training at Washington Park, also has been galloping daily at the Home wood course. While he may not make Monday's $15,000 added Tri-State, a six-furlong dash for three-year-olds, he should be primed sufficiently later this season to challenge Kentucky Derby champion Venetian Way and Edgehill Farm's Bally Ache in the $100,000 added Arlington "^assic and $100,000 American Derby. A $10,200 bargain purchase at the Keene-land Fall Sales, Vital Force rolled up an impressives record as a juvenile, winning six of 13 starts and earning $181,033. In one period — from March 26 to July 8 — he scored in five of six races, including victories in the Lafayette at Keeneland, the Cherry Hill at Garden State, the Christian at Delaware and the Tremont at Belmont. Jauntstown, Tackett Win Following Raceway Delay: Riders, Officials Hold Emergency Meeting after Three-Horse Spill Don Grisham Jauntstown, Tackett Win Following Raceway Delay Riders, Officials Hold Emergency Meeting After Three-Horse Spill By DON GRISHAM Staff Correspondent RACEWAY PARK, Toledo, Ohio, May 10. — A 46-minute delay failed to deter a pair of veterans, the nine-year-old Jauntstown and his rider 39-year-old Hiram Tackett, in the second race here. The delay came about in an emergency meeting between riders and track officials over track conditions. The jockeys decided to continue the card but with the option of refusal if the individual reinsman so desired. Racing resumed in the second with six rider changes and one scratch. Jauntstown went to the front soon after the quarter and accomplished the task although he required 1 : 30 to complete the muddy 7 furlongs. He reached the wire a length and one-half in front of Paul Butler's Canaan Pass with the favored Five Hundred third. Overlooked in the wagering, Jauntstown paid $22.00 and completed two Daily Doubles. The regular at $76.00 and a consolation one of $14.00. The latter oc-cured when Mrs. F. H. Rigge's Speedie Stevie was a late scratch. A slight drizzle fell throughout the afternoon. An estimated crowd of 3,000 was in attendance. Jockey James R. Vinson was removed to Mercy Hospital following the running of the first race in which three horses fell approaching the quarter pole. The Decatur, Ala., rider was astride Frank Dolhay's Stormy's Image when that horse lost his footing and fell as he raced in the middle of the track. Tamarack Stable's Bilsandy, with Joe Gregory up. and Mrs. Lois Lucas' Secret Memory, ridden by R. E. Hill, struck the fallen horse simultaneously and went down. Both Gregory and Hill escaped with only a shaking-up, but the former was advised to cancel the balance of his day's mounts. Later it was revealed that Vinson suffer- j I j I ed deep cuts on the forearm and wrist as well as facial abrasions. Frank Farro's Your Poet, who was setting the pace at the time of the spill, went on to a six length score over Mike Mazzaro's Her Heir. The outsider, Klady-Kan was third, 21 lengths off the winner. Your Poet returned $8.00. Unoccupied River Downs Barn is Razed by Fire: Believe Blaze Started by Vandals; Estimated Damage About $50,000 Unoccupied River Downs Barn Is Razed by Fire Believe Blaze Started by Vandals; Estimated Damage About $50,000 (Special to Daily Racing Form) CINCINNATI, Ohio, May 10.— One barn was completely gutted in the River Downs stable area late Monday when a flash fire, believed to be started by vandals, broke out shortly after 5:30 p. m. There were no horses stabled in Barn 19, which was reduced to charred wood and twisted metal, but horsemen Thomas Myers of Mount Holly, Ohio, and William Hamman of Cincinnati, led six thoroughbreds and a stable pony to safety when flames threatened Barns 18 and 20. Leon A. Slavin, president and general manager of the Cincinnati track, which opens a 44-day meeting May 27, said total damage may reach as high as $50,000. He added that construction to replace the 32-stall barn will begin immediately and will in no way effect space allotted to horsemen who have already had their applications confirmed. Flames reached as high as 25 feet, but track superintendent Thurman Pangburn and his crew were immediately aided by 12 pieces of fire equipment from Cincinnati and nearbly Anderson Township. There was no chance to save the burning barn, but firemen played heavy water on Barns 18 and 20 after getting the blaze under control. Hamilton County police later apprehended two boys, 11 and 12 years of age, who were described as "runaways" and allegedly had previous juvenile records. Myers told police he had chased two boys, who were riding bicycles, away from his barn earlier in the afternoon. Police Corp. Arthur Schearer said the boys admitted they were smoking in the burned-out barn earlier in the afternoon. The bicycles, which were allegedly stolen, were found in the gutted barn. The boys were turned over to juvenile authorities one hour after the blaze started. They were found huddling in a boat in the Neptune boat harbor a mile east of the track. Chief Francis Wolf angel, of Anderson Township fire department, said he will ask the state fire marshal's office to investigate for arson. The fire was the first of any consequence at River Downs in 12 years and the management said "It was fortunate to have happened at this early date rather than next week when a heavy influx of horsemen will arrive." There are approximately 90 horses on the grounds now. Suspensions and Fines Suspensions and Fines Person. Track. Penalty. Jockey D. Weiler Asc. $25 Jockey O. Crank Asc. $25 Appr'tice V. Y., May 10.— C a p t. Harry F. Guggenheim's power of the handicap ranks, Bald Eagle, had the services of his regular joc'.;ey, Manuel Ycaza, this morning as he ambled through a 7 furlongs workout in 1:27 over the fast Belmont Park main track. Working evenly throughout and not pressured at any time, the five-year-old son of Nasrullah— Siama. by Tiger, accomplished his task to the letter set down by trainer Woody Stephens. Idle since he established a new track record winning the 1 V4 miles Gulfstream Park Handicap in 1:59%, Bald Eagle is being kept on edge for the attractive stakes program on tap. He will make his initial stakes start of the New York season in the $100.-000 added Metropolitan Mile on Memorial Day. In his first stakes appearance during the winter season. Bald Eagle juot failed to catch Calumet Farm's On-and-On in Hialeah's McLennan 'Cap, then took the Widener and Gulfstream 'Caps. One-Eyed King Near Racing Condition Bald Eagle's full brother, One-Eyed King I was put through a 6 furlongs stint in 1:14%, breezing, and should be ready to resume his racing activities shortly. Trainer John M. Gaver had the Green-tree Stable's good three-year-old Weather-wise, step 6 panels in 1:18% and the colt showed no signs of the bruised heel that kept him but of the Kentucky Derby. Judges Stand By Charles Hatton Fresh Talent for Derby Victor in Preakness Venetian Way Vindicates Kilroe, McLennan Also Adds Feather in Royal Coinage's Cap CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 10.— Venetian Way, Bally Ache, Victoria Park and others of the cast for the Triple Crown are putting the show on the road to Pimlico. There they will rerun the Derby, but the road company roles will be enacted by some fresh talent. And it is possible such as Francis S., T. V. Lark, Idolater and Never Give In will play something more than mere bit parts. Asked if he would rewrite Bally Ache's lines were the Derby run over, trainer Jimmy Pitt said he could think of no different way of playing it. Looking back on the Derby, with a shud der, Senor Luro, who saddled the Canadian-bred Victoria Park, said: "It is quite possible Venetian Way will win the Preakness no matter what the going. Nevertheless, I want to be convinced he can beat Victoria Park over Pimlico, when the going is dry." Several turfmen who are taking three-year-olds to the old, old home of the MJC have an eye also on the $100,000 revival running of the New Jersey Derby. Perhaps the wish is father of the thought, but they theorize that if Venetian Way wins the Preakness, Vic Sovinski may decide to bypass Gene Mori's race to , await the Belmont Stakes, last of the Triple Crown events. However, that perceptive trainer reflects: "I won that race at Garden State Park with Lincoln Road, when it was known as the Jersey. I am thinking seriously of trying to repeat with Venetian Way." Two Hialeah Developments If Venetian Way competes for the Belmont, it will mark New Yorkers' first sight of this beautifully turned, 15.3 hands chestnut grandson of George D. Widener's Eight Thirty. But in the Derby he vindicated the New York handicapper, Jimmy Kilroe, proving that he warranted more weight in the Experimental than was assigned Tompion or Bally Ache. He also vindicated Maryland's Charley McLennan, who voted the sunny-haired Blumberg colt "the most likely to succeed" of the new season's three-year-olds. It is interesting both the first two in the Run for the Roses, Venetian Way and Bally Ache, not only wintered at Hialeah but also began their careers there as two-year-olds. There is a piquant question regarding the wisdom of racing immature horses in the wintertime dashes of 3 furlongs, but the trainers of neither of these colts was tempted to overdo it. Of course a horse of any age may be over-raced, and they often are. Very many young horses never survive training to reach the races at all. Results of the Triple Crown events always exert an influence on the course of bloodstock production, just as the sires of Epsom Derby winners accrue a new and higher vogue, Venetian Way is a feather in the youthful Royal Coinage's cap. Royal Coinage is an eight-year-old son of Eight Thirty and is out of the Kentucky Oaks winner Canina, by Bull Dog. We saw Royal Coinage finish lapped on Nashua and Summer Tan in the Belmont Futurity, in which he sustained injuries abruptly terminating his turf career. Jimmy Pitt insists Bally Ache is at least as "well bred" as is Venetian Way. This is a matter of critical taste. Bally Ache is by the Irish Bally dam, bred by Joe "hospital sweepstakes" McGrath at Brownstown, where Birdcatcher stood. Sprinters predominate in his family crest, but Bally Ache proves he is perfectly capable of siring a degree of "bottom" and toughness-of-fibre which is rare in the rushing modern mode of racing. Ballydam now stands at Jonabell in the Blue Grass, and Johnny Bell's neighbors are vying to see who shall be privileged to stand Bally Ache at stud. Venetian Way's owner, incidentally, has a small stud in Illinois, where the racing board has set up purse regulations that make it especially attractive to breed horses there. Needles, Dark Star, Ponder and Omaha all were members of the first crops of foals sired by their young progenitors and helped immeasurably to establish them at stud. Boosts Dominion Bloodstock Victoria Park, by Eddie Taylor's Flares horse Chop Chop, has helped to make breeders conscious of bloodstock in the neighboring Dominion, and especially of Chop Chop. Victoria Park's sire is by a brother to Omaha and himself defeated Princequillo in the Empire City Handicap at three. We think it safe to say even thus early in the present year, the "hundred granders" have benefited bloodstock growers in many areas. For the sake of candor, the sires of Venetian Way, Bally Ache and Victoria Park have none of them been quite the height of fashion. But for our part 'performance'' is to be preferred every time when it cannot be combined with "pedigree." Others may have had a different experience, but the best horse with whose breeding we have had anything to do — Myrtle Charm — is proving the best also in stud. Even though it is very probable she would be accounted the least fashionably bred as a daughter of Alsab. There is this to be said concerning bloodstock breeding, and we do not know if anybody has said it before, though that may be because it is obvious: There are prepotent stallions and mares and their lights cannot be hidden underneath a bushel. Conversely, all the fanfare in the world will not make a success of an inferior stallion or mare, it does not matter how appealing his or her tabular pedigree. New Jersey: My Dear Girl, Bally Ache Eye Garden Events Hodgins to Start Right Smart in Betsy Ross Expects Filly 'to Run Her Race' Saturday William C. Phillips I New Jersey By William C. Phillips My Dear Girl, Bally Ache Eye Garden. Events Hodgins to Start Right Smart in Betsy Ross Expects Filly To Run Her Race' Saturday GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 10.— Contemplative news was delivered to horsemen with local aspirants to the Betsy Ross Stakes here this week I end and the Jersey Derby on Me- morial Day with announcements that My Dear Girl will be here for the filly stake and that Bally Ache also is slated to head this way. Neither is a completed fact of the moment, but such are the stated plans of their trainers. Trainer Melvin "Sunshine" Calvert assured Nate Gladstone of racing secretary M. C. "Ty" Shea's staff in New York on Monday afternoon that he intends to ship Mrs. Frances A. Genter's juvenile filly champion of last year here for Saturday's $25,000 added Betsy Ross at 6 furlongs, if she emerges from her debut at Aqueduct today in good order. From Louisville, H. J. "Jimmy" Pitt was quoted over the long-distance telephone as saying that Leonard D. Fruchtman's Bally Ache "will run in the Jersey Derby." The Kentucky Derby runner-up will first take another crack at Sunny Blue Farm's Venetian Way in the Preakness, but the $100,000 added Jersey Derby is next on the schedule. The double-threat invasion of Mrs. Genter's My Dear Girl and Wheatley Stable's Irish Jay from New York to the Betsy Ross is expected to have a decided effect on the starting line-up for Saturday's filly stake. In other words, their presence in the field will make it no place for a filly who has not qualified to meet the best. There are several local rivals who come up to standard, however, and among them is Miss Mary V. Fisher's Right Smart. Veteran Jack Hodgins evinced no dismay over news of the New York invaders at the barn this morning in stating he has full intentions of starting his filly. Second to Blonde Demond Last Week Mrs. R. H. Farringer's Blonde Demond decidedly outshone Right Smart when they won divisions of a prep for the Betsy Ross here last Thursday, but, in spite of facial appearances, Hodgins believes his filly ran the superior race. Blonde Demond carried 121 pounds and won eased up in 1:12, while Right Smart was a driving winner under 110 pounds in 1:12% and was subjected to a claim of foul before her victory was sanctioned. It seems difficult on this evidence to believe Right Smart gave the better performance, but Hodgins is not given to flights of fancy and his opinions are to be respected. He says: "Blonde Demond won easily all right, while my filly was doing everything she could to get herself beat." It was partly my fault, I guess," Hodgins continued. "I tried a new bit on her and it didn't work too well. There is nothing wrong with her that isn't in her head and I was experimenting, but Saturday I'll put a plain bit on her and she should run her race." Hodgins also has Dixiana's Green Trunk and Miss Fisher's Guessing, who are eligible for the Betsy Ross, but said neither will start. Green Trunk he apparently believes is not good enough, while Guessing he refers to in friendly manner as being a "big flat-footed filly," and says the track cupped out under her in her race behind Blonde Demond. "We knew that Right Smart had bucked shins and had a splint last winter in Florida, and wondered if her tendency to bear out in her debut here was an indication she was hurting some place. She's, just an ornery hussy," Hodgins declared. "I had the veterinarian check her over from tail to teeth and there's nothing wrong with her except what's in her head. She had her physical troubles way back in January and she's sound as a dollar now." Dam Won Two-Year-Old Stakes Right Smart is a homebred daughter of Cortil out of Fulvous, by Spy Song. Her dam won the 1952 runnings of the Princess Pat and Arlington Lassie as a two-year-old and is from a stakes-winner, so there is plenty of bottom to her pedigree. Hodgins recalls Fulvous was unplaced in her first start and won her only other three races. "She was small," he says, "and when she did not grow at three, we bred her the next year." Right Smart has started only three times and has won twice. She was a disappointing favorite in an overnight at Hialeah last winter and it was then she developed her shin and splint troubles. In her debut, she won by an almost unbelievable 18 lengths at Keeneland last fall in a sparkling 1:10% and anybody seeing her win that race, as we did, will never doubt her ability. The Homestretch: Trainer M. L. "Junie" Fallon was back at James Edwards' Audley Farm in Berryville, Va., this morning to check on C. W. Smith's Hillsdale, who is preparing to make his comeback in the handicap division early this summer. At the barn here at Garden State, the groom in charge reported the fever which caused Smith's American Comet to be withdrawn from the Valley Forge Handicap on Saturday has subsided and that he is without ill effects. The groom believes the fever came from a change of water and they are giving him bottled aqua. . . . Paul L. Kelley made an early departure over the week end for Chicago with James D. Norris' entire Spring Hill Farm contingent. The string consists of 15 horses, including the stakes-winning Easy Spur, who is undergoing repairs for a I return in late summer. California: World's 'Firstest' Oval Set to Open Sprint 'Cap Launches Hollypark Meet Many Factors Make for Quality Sport Oscar Otis V: yyyy^yyy&g^^ [ California — By Oscar Otis World's 'Firstest' Oval Set to Open Sprint 'Cap Launches Hollypark Meet Many Factors Make for Quality Sport HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., May 10.— Hollywood Park, California's track known as the "first-est with the mostest," opens its wickets on Wednesday ■ I to launch a third decade of opera- tion, and while it can't rival the new "Big A" in New York for pari-mutuel wagering, on a daily average basis, there is a good chance the course may retain its world leadership in daily average attendance and certainly in purse distribution, the latter category seeing a tidy sum of $67,000 plus distributed to horsemen for an average purse of $8,527, excluding horsemen's nomination and entry fees. We can't speak for the Hollywood leadership, but it must be apparent to all that the track "arrived" only by matching competition, specifically, Santa Anita, and had it not been a sincere, indeed, almost an obsessional striving to make the track of "Lakes and Flowers," as it loves to style itself, as close to the ideal as possible, it never would have become that aforementioned "fustest with the mostest." Most thinkers concede that New York's "Big A" will serve to stimulate and upgrade racing everywhere, and here is the way we analyze the situation at Hollywood. First, the track can never lack for either name or good horses because California is developing its own stock as good as any in the world, and, moreover, that quality is improving every year in volume. Secondly, the trend whereby big horses developed in California have gone East to national prestige and money well could be reversed, and, as an indication of this, while a mere nomination is far from being a starter, it is known that Sword Dancer, Amerigo and Bald Eagle are among the nominees* for the $140,000 added Gold Cup. Amerigo is here on the grounds, the others could come for a foray without too much urging. Moreover, Hollywood Park and other Western tracks have a magnetic attraction for certain horses which in the East would be just passable stake horses, i. e., the differential in race tracks. Horses for courses, as the old. saying goes, and when Hillsdale shipped out here a few years back because he liked to hear his feet clatter (actually, they don't at •Hollywood, but the saying is apropos) and became a star, it set owners thinking. Divided Stable Has More Opportunities , This is not a one-way street, by any means, for some horses, usually those with shelly feet, are not partial to our Western speedways and would do better elsewhere. Still another factor of Hollywood strength is the growing awareness of many American stables to split into divisions and thus multiply their opportunities. Too many major stables have horses in the same category and thus limit the opportunities in that class. Two specific instances are worth cliting. One is the decision, revealed in this column from Kentucky, of C. V. Whitney to commit himself to a year-round campaign on both coasts (East Coast in this case including the Middle West on occasions) and the notion of Rex Ellsworth to race on three fronts within the foreseeable future. And by this, we mean California, Chicago and the Atlantic Seaboard. He already is making his first attempt at this, with Linn Boice taking a division to Detroit, while the Caliente stable remains intact. He's really on three fronts now, but including Caliente, it will be four. Hollywood Park also is making itself more competitive all the time by expansion of its public facilities, this year's major improvements being the creation of a standing ramp up toward the quarter pole, and, if a survey shows it warranted, additional seats will be placed there. The ramp will enable about 2,500 fans to see the race in true, high-up grandstand style. Its use, of course, is geared mostly for Saturdays and holidays. The other is a diffusion of certain wagering facilities, the most dramatic being the installation of mutuel wickets in the gardens in front of the stands as one enters the%track. These will serve a dual purpose, to relieve congestion in main line queues and to provide a chance for late arrivals to "get aboard" in ample time. Traffic Control a Full-Time Project Los Angeles likes to claim itself as a city on wheels and there is enough truth to the claim to make Freeway jokes anything but funny, and Hollywood Park realizes that the greatest plant in the world in such an area isn't quite enough. People must be able to get there — on wheels — and home again without unreasonable delay. Traffic engineering is almost a full-time job with one senior Hollypark executive, and, it is pleasant to report, some old bottlenecks of long standing have been deleted. Especially that one where Florence cures into Prairie. Add everything up and it is entirely probable that the combination of improvements cited will offset and perhaps even reverse a slight weakness noted in the tone of Los Angeles-area meetings so far this year, Santa Anita through the harness and then through the short horses. Business hasn't been bad, mind you, but whenever it doesn't jump, the "viewers with dismay" have their say. Personally, we are not an Angeleno, and are often amused ,by the goings on here, but one is awed by the unshakable conviction of the citizenry that this is going to be the biggest city in the world, that everything here is going to be championship and that regardless of elsewhere, the destiny of racing and breeding lie in the area. New track records set at the meeting now in progress will be used for compiling speed ratings at the next session at the 'same track. When a new track has its inaugural meeting or a new distance is being run, sufficient time will be allowed to compile records on which to base speed ratings. The track record will receive a standard rating of 100 — thus, a horse equaling the record will have a speed rating of 100. For etch one-fifth second slower than the track record, one point is deducted. Therefore, the rating for a horse running his race two and one-fifth seconds slower than the track record receives a speed rating of 89 (100 minus 11). EXAMPLE Track record 1 : 10 Rating figure 100 Winner's time 1:10% Rating 99 Time of second horse 1:10% 97 Time of third horse 1:11 95 Time of fourth horse 1:11% 93 Time of fifth horse 1:11% 91 One point (the equivalent of one -fifth second) is deducted from the rating for each length the horse is beaten. Thus, a horse beaten four lengths in a six-furlong race run in 1:11 (rating of 100 where the track record is 1:10) is timed in 1:11%, receiving a speed rating of 91. We don't like laws in 1 fields where none in particular exist where B these laws are so stringent, so arbitrary that they can wreak incalcuably more harm than good, no matter how good are the intentions of those who write the bills and those who vote their passage. We come full circle again to the point that where legislative interference takes place, there is created a zone of great turbulence and future perturbation. . We'd like to think that baseball will never be in the position of barring the ■ formation of a new league which means, curbing the number of players it can hold j in the minors but we'd certainly hate to see non-baseball men decide just how many players a major league can help develop ' and hold in the minors until ready to use. • We just do not think the figure can be arrived at by guesswork, science or in any 7 way than by the old empirical method — trial and erro. AAA No bill will be so written that such a J figure can be changed on an experimental J basis because this would be to take the legislative reins out of the hands of the , legislators. Once they are in the seat, it will take a great deal to unseat them. That they mean to have a try for the seat is obvious I and once seated they certainly do not intend " to unseat themselves with any such bill which would allow changes to be made j in it if empirical experiments prove faulty. So what happens then. We are on the J horns of an ugly beast. To take no action is to watch the presently entrenched base-i ball and other leagues gobble up all the players available and ruthlessly move in ^ wherever it suits them so as to_ wreck what- _ ' , ever competition attempts to come into the 2 field. On the other horn, we have the worry I that given the ball, the legislators will run J away and hide and never again will sports be free of legislative interference. It makes for ulcers — the whole unhappy picture. Old Woodbine Park Entries ; ; * 3 . If an owner does not want to enter his horse to be claimed, his horse must meet the "optional conditions" set down by the racing secretary in order to be eligible to compete. These conditions appear in the past performances preceding each race. All horses who race in optional claimers, but are not entered to be claimed, must have raced at some time for a specified claiming price to obtain a classification, and they must again race for a claiming price if the owner wishes to reclassify his horse in a lower category. Also, winners of optional claiming races when entered NOT eligible to be claimed, can not be eligible for the same class of race UNLESS entered eligible to be claimed. + + + + 4- + + + + + + + + + Monday's Late Beulah Park Charts Monday's Late BEULAH PARK Charts SEVENTH RACE 6 FURLONGS (chute).
