Good at Wire in Grey Lag--Youthful Easy for Requested--Robertson on Both DIT AND REQUESTED SCORE IN JAMAICA FEATURES HANGER RACER WHIPS RING1E IN THRILLER THRILLEROnly Only Nose to Good at Wire in Grey Lag Youthful Easy for Requested Robertson on Both BothNEW NEW YORK N Y May 10 W Arnold Hangers Dit running back to the good race he ran back of Haltal and Mioland in the Dixie Handicap at Pimlico was winner of the first running of the Grey Lag Handicap at Jamaica this afternoon The finish was the biggest thrill of a day that was marked by close finishes and it was only by a nose that he outgamed Gustav Rings Ringie which had beaten him in the Philadelphia Handicap at Havr de Grace At the heels of the battling pair Olympus from The Bar rington Stable readily took third from George D Wideners Rosetown RosetownThis This was the big event of the final day of the Metropolitan meeting that brought out a crowd of 23882 enthusiasts according to turnstile count The companion feature was the Youthful Stakes for the juveniles and it was captured by Ben F Whitakers Requested The going was still muddy from recent rains but the players were fairly successful in locating the winners winnersOnly Only six went to the post for the Grey Lag but it was a horse race all the way and the play was pretty evenly divided be ¬ tween Ringie and Dit with Ringie going to the post a slight favorite And it was a horse race all the way with Alfred Robertson giv ¬ ing one of his best exhibitions of horseman ¬ ship to have the son of Transmute winner in a long gruelling stretch duel duelOLYMPUS OLYMPUS UNFORTUNATE UNFORTUNATEAs As the race was run Olympus was par ¬ ticularly unfortunate and it is possible but for the interference he suffered he might have been winner instead of being beaten a length and a short npse As the field left the stalls Rosetown was first to show in front but Robbie sent Dit along to the first turn at a pace that enabled him to cross to the inside with the Hanger gelding Rose town was on his flank rounding the first turn and Lindberg sent Olympus up on the outside to run into a snug pocket where he had no chance to come through throughAs As Dit went along in his slight lead Skelly on Rosetown appeared to have Olympus well pocketed and it was in that fashion that the back stretch was reached At this time Ringie was well back of the three that showed the way but he was galloping strongly and Meade was biding his time timeGoing Going to the halfmile ground Lindberg made another unsuccessful attempt to go through on the inside with Olympus but he held to the rail position in the vain hope that he eventually would find an opening Then Meade made his move and circled around with Ringie He went up so rap ¬ idly that before the threefurlong post was reached he was closely lapped on Dit but Robertson simply shook up his mount and sat down to a hand ride Olympus was hold ¬ ing his position on the rail and Corydon was beginning to circle around as Rosetown showed signs of tiring tiringGoing Going around the stretch turn and into the straight Dit and Ringie were racing as a team and a furlong out Lindberg made one more effort to move through on the inside with Olympus but he was blocked and the other two continued on their way Corydons bid petered out badly and with Olympus hampered there came the two horse finish Robertson held Dit together magnificently in the closing stages and it was still his nose that was in front when the photograph was examined examinedCORYDON CORYDON FALTERS BADLY BADLYOlympus Olympus was shown at the heels of the fighting pair and he had beaten Rosetown by something more than two lengths Cory ¬ don had failed utterly to come back to his Dixie form when he faltered in the run home while Devils Crag the only other starter had been a trailer all the way wayWhen When Ben F Whitakers Requested was winner of the Youthful Stakes he earned 5425 which was a little more than four times what he cost as a yearling when he was bought at the Saratoga sales for 1300 The son of Questionnaire Fair Perdita had earned 1775 coming up to the Youthful which means that his money score now is 7200 bargainAlways pronouncing him a real bargain Always favorite in the small field that performed only five racing with no show pool he was one of the easiest winners of the day when he had a wide margin over Tomochichi from The Barrington Stable with Scotland Light from the same estab ¬ lishment beating Wee Bairn for third thirdThe The start was a bit ragged when Wee Bairn beat the others away and Son Islam was so tardy leaving his stall that he had scant chance Gray made every advantage of Wee Bairn and he raced the son of Jock at his best pace but when Requested went after him in a fashion that soon caught the Ziegler colt it was all over overAs As Requested went into command Rob ¬ bie simply let him go along in his own fashion and it was good enough to hold his lead while in the stretch he drew out until he was five lengths clear crossing the line Tomochichi and Scotland Light ran down Wee Bairn in the final furlong and Son Islam after his misfortune at the start also was catching the Ziegler colt at every stride strideRequested Requested paid his backers 380 Another Million-Dollar Day ANOTHER MILLIONDOLLAR DAY DAYNEW NEW YORK N Y May 10 For the final day of the
