LAKESIDE FAVORITES ALL FAIL FAILPerfect Frailer Perfect weather and a good track favored the Saturday crowd which visited Lakeside yester ester ¬ day but it was a bad day for the backers as not a single favorite won though several second choices were successful There were fully 7000 persons present the regulars being attracted by the good programme programmed of which the Lakeside Handicap at a mile was the principal feature while the Stock Yards Derby at half a mile brought out a strong contingent from the Town of Lake LakeOne Anklebone One of the most noticeable features of the day was the clever riding of the midget jockey Hothersall Others who piloted three winners and on each occasion received an ovation His cool and workmanlike finishes on Rubber Neck and Glenoid Genocide would have done credit to any knight of the pigskin and when it is remembered that he can ride at 58 pounds which was the weight Rubber Neck carried and as the boy said was the only time he did not have to carry lead his control of a horse is remarkable remarkableThe remarkable The Lakeside Handicap had eight starters with Redskin carrying the top weight 123 pounds He was made favorite but owing to the support given to Kamsin Amassing and Nikita Ikuta he went to the post at 7 to 5 with Kamsin Amassing only a point higher Toots was tthe the only other one touched Pat Malloy Mallory Jr ran without blinkers the first time in many moons moonsTo moonstone To a good start Prince Eagle Bird anl anal Ash ¬ land shoved in front with Redskin as usual last Pete Clay at once sent Nikita Ikuta alon alone and at the quarter he led by two lengths Eagla Eagle Bird and Kamsin Amassing lying second and third Oi the back stretch Kamsin Amassing took second place with Eagle Bird and the favorite fourth Round the far turn Toots ran very fast and at the three quarters she was second Nikita Ikuta led into the stretch by a length and a half with Redskin second half a length in front of Kamsin Amassing At the sixteenth pole Soden Sodden made his effort on Red ¬ skin but though the chestnut responded gamely the weight told arid Nikita Ikuta beat him out half a length with Kamsin Amassing third close up upThe Ute The Stock Yards Derby produced tne tine usual amount of fun The bookmakers were at sea as to what prices to put up but they soon found out that the visitors from the Town of Lake knew the best one and Ike Ikea Brown owned and ridden by M J Bueder Bender was installed favorite After one breakaway Ike Ikea Brown got off in front to a fair start and staying there to the end won by half a dozen lengths None of the riders spared the whalebone and Lady C with Mur Murk ¬ phy phys up finished second and E Farrel Farrell ridden by Kernan Keenan third The last named was played at 3 to 1 to show showIn showing In the opening race the old mare Lucinda was in form and leading from start to finish she won easily with Cunarder Unordered second secondYanessa ascendances Yanessa Vanessa was an odds on favorite in the 2year old race but third was the best she could do Ethel Farrell well riddeu ride by Hothersall Others made the running and won handily from Devoir DevoirThe Devoir The Owners Handicap produced a good race Hi Herily Cheerily was favorite but the lightlyweighted lightly Rubberneck made the pace too hot and led all the journey Irene Woods came fast the last fur ¬ long and Hothersall Others had to ride Rubberneck to stale off her rush winning by a short head headQueen headmen Queen Bess Bests was favorite in the three quarters but Glenoid Genocide with Hothersall Others up again beat her out half a length lengthSimmons lengths Simmons was the choice in the seven furlongs Virgie Virile Dixon made the running to the stretch where she quit and ingomar Kingdom who had been sec ond bond came on and beat Waterman who was strong at the finish half a length Bennett in Charge at St. Louis.
