[Identification of item], Red Bird Mission, Harlan Heim Slide Presentation, KYSX319-A, 1932Special Collections, Berea College, Berea, Ky.
Heim, a graduate of Cornell University Medical School, came to the Mission as its first doctor and founded the hospital in 1928. He later became the Mission's first director.
This was used by Heim during his travels around the country to promote and gather support for the Red Bird Mission.
These slides, photographed by H. Huber of Enola, Pennsylvania, depict customs, such as funerals; the Mission's work in religion, health care, and education; and Bell County, Kentucky landscapes. A copy of the script is also present.
These are fourth generation reproductions of the original lantern slides; therefore the image quality is poor.
KYSX310-A supplies further information on the collection of which this series is a part.
Other titles: "The Challenge of the Cumberlands".
