[Identification of item] John B. Shaw Letter, 1829, 92SC45,Library Special Collections and Archives, Kentucky Historical Society, Frankfort.
Shaw wrote Governor Thomas Metcalfe August 3, 1829, to seek remittance of a $12 fine he was assessed for failing to appear for mustering into the 33rd Regiment of the Kentucky Militia for 1828. Shaw, of Brownsboro, stated he lived in the district of the 116th Regiment and was mustered into that unit. The document also bears signed statements by Colonel Samuel Steele and Lieutenant Colonel R.K. White of the 116th certifying Shaw's claims. A note on the reverse of the document indicates the money was remitted within a few days.
