Biography/History

Governor John Adair served in office from 1820-1824 as a Democratic Republican. Originally from South Carolina, Adair resided in Mercer County, KY. His occupations were a Farmer and Soldier. Adair was at one time charged with conspiring with Aaron Burr, but exonerated. As Governor, John Adair signed a bill creating the Bank of the Commonwealth, one of several relief measures that brought about Old Court/New Court controversy.
