Governor William S. Taylor served in office from 1899-1900 as a Republican. Originally from Butler County, KY, Taylor continued to reside in that county. His occupation was a Lawyer and a Farmer. William S. Taylor was inaugurated after a close race with William Goebel. The Democratic General Assembly contested the election, resulting in an armed militia from both sides in Frankfort. The courts ruled against Taylor's election, after Goebel's death.
