Biography/History

Governor James T. Morehead served in office from 1834-1836 as a Whig Party affiliate. Originally from Bullitt County, KY, Morehead resided in Warren County, KY. His occupation was a Lawyer. James T. Morehead is notable as the first native-born Governor, succeeded to office upon death of Breathitt. Governor Morehead was a supporter of Henry Clay. He also later served in U.S. Senate from 1841-1847.
